IGNOU centres to have net facility

New Delhi: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has decided to provide computers with net facility to all its 1600 centres across India and abroad. The decision has been taken to promote e-learning, which includes making of a national digital repository by a Gyankosh, establishment of tele-learning centres, beginning smart cards and making of information kiosks.
Each centre will be provided with two computers and the computers will be used by the centres for administrative purposes like maintenance of student's records, transmission of grades and other areas of learner support services.
The University is also planning to set up computer laboratories at each of its institutes on its own expense, if the institutes provide the university with space. This would facilitate learners in Information Communication Technology.
