Wife Swap: Paintball Wife Swaps With Environmental Wife

On this week’s episode of Wife Swap, the Long family and the Stephens-Fowler family are featured. The Long family from Missouri lives a life of fast food, 4X4s and paintball, while the Stephens-Fowler family from California focuses on education, the environment and keeping their bodies fit.

The Long family consists of husband Alan, wife Gayla, and their four sons. The sons are fifteen year old Cody, ten year old Coltan, eight year old Clayton, and four year old Cameron. The whole family, including mom, loves paintball. At home, Gayla takes care of all of the household chores, which Alan calls “skirt work.” Alan works as mayor of the fifty-five person town, where they live. The Long family usually eats corn dogs and fast food, and exercise to them is riding an ATV. For the Long family, such things as education and environment take a backseat to having fun.

The Stephens-Fowler family consists of husband Stephen, wife Rene, and their two children. The two children are eleven year old Juliette and eight year old James. Rene works as a life coach and certified weight-loss hypnotherapist, and Stephen is a British-born environmental entrepreneur. The entire family is both health and environmentally conscious. The family eats only organic food, and they spend weekends doing family fitness activities. The family utilizes a housekeeper to take care of household chores. The children engage in music, fencing and speaking foreign languages in hopes of attending an Ivy League college.

In the first week of the swap, Gayla Long is surprised to find out how much time Rene spent on the treadmill and that Stephen picks up the kids from school. Gayla questions if the children have time for fun in between all their homework. Meanwhile, Rene Stephens-Fowler does her best to use the washing machine. Rene expresses concern that the Long family isn’t getting enough exercise and does not have a proper diet.

In the second week of the swap, Gayla Long introduces the Stephens-Fowler family to paintball and go-karts. Meanwhile, Rene Stephens-Fowler locks up the ATVs and takes the Long family hiking. She also attempts to show the Long family some healthier food options.

Wife Swap airs on Friday, January 30 from 8 PM to 9 PM ET on ABC.

Helen Fisher's Personality Test

Anthropologist and author Helen Fisher aims to make the dating process more efficient in her new book, Why Him? Why Her? In the tome, she identifies the chemical factors that determine who we find attractive, and creates profiles of four distinct personality types: the Explorer, the Builder, the Director, and the Negotiator. To find out which you fit, we recommend taking Fisher's test here. And to preview an excerpt of the book, keep reading.

—Erin Clements

The Biology of Personality

Dopamine. I began with this brain chemical because I had studied the activities of this powerful and ubiquitous neurotransmitter for several years.

On impulse, I listed some of the personality traits I knew were associated with specific genes in the dopamine system: the propensity to seek novelty; the willingness to take risks; spontaneity; heightened energy; curiosity; creativity; optimism; enthusiasm; mental flexibility. I decided to call those men and women who expressed the traits associated with this biology Explorers. Patrick, I would come to realize, had a good deal of the Explorer in him.

I drew another blank sheet of paper from my desk drawer. What else did I know about personality?

Well, individuals who have inherited particular genes in the serotonin system tend to be calm, social, cautious but not fearful, persis tent, loyal, fond of rules and facts and orderly. They are conventional, the guardians of tradition. And because these men and women are also skilled at building social networks and managing people in family, business and social situations, I dubbed those who had inherited this constellation of genetic traits Builders.

I had also studied testosterone. Although testosterone is often associated with males, I knew that both men and women are capable of expressing particularly strong activity in this neural system. Moreover, those who inherit this chemistry tend to be direct, decisive, focused, analytical, logical, tough-minded, exacting, emotionally contained and good at strategic thinking. They get to the point. Many are bold and competitive. They excel at figuring out machines, mathematical formulas or other rule-based systems. Many are good at understanding the structure of music, too. I named these people Directors.

Last in my store of biological knowledge were some of the traits linked with estrogen. Women and men with a great deal of estrogen activity tend to see the big picture: they connect disparate facts to think contextually and holistically, expressing what I call web thinking. They are imaginative. They display superior verbal skills and excel at reading postures, gestures, facial expressions and tones of voice, known as executive social skills. They are also intuitive, sympathetic, nurturing, mentally flexible, agreeable, idealistic, altruistic and emotionally expressive. I christened the people of this broad biological type Negotiators.

Other chemical systems play a role in personality, of course. We may have as many as a hundred different kinds of neurotransmitters (smaller molecules) and some fifty types of peptides in the brain. But most keep the heart beating or orchestrate other basic functions. It is increasingly apparent that these four chemicals—dopamine, serotonin, testosterone and estrogen—play lead roles in producing aspects of personality.

Two others should be mentioned, though. Norepinephrine, a chemical closely related to dopamine, undoubtedly contributes to some of the Explorer’s traits, especially their energy and impulsivity. And oxytocin—a chemical synthesized, stored and triggered (in large part) by estrogen—most likely plays a role in the Negotiator’s compassion, nurturing, trust and intuition. In fact, families of chemicals produce the Explorer, Builder, Director and Negotiator. The specific activities of any one chemical are not as significant as the ratios and interactions among all of them and several other neural systems.

Nevertheless, only dopamine, serotonin, testosterone and estrogen have been directly associated with a wide range of personality traits. So variations in these four chemicals most likely form the foundation of these four basic styles of thinking and behaving.

But does your personality type guide who you love?

I decided to find out.

Movie Review - 'The Uninvited'

Remakes of Asian horror movies and supernatural thrillers have polluted movie theaters based on the commercial and critical success of one film: The Ring.

Since 2003, we’ve been subjected to The Grudge, Shutter, Alone, One Missed Call, Mirrors, The Eye, Dark Water, and, well, you get the point. None of them have built on what The Ring created, an overwhelming sense of creepy dread dressed in the clothes of a slick American suspense flick.

How can this genre still be around after all its sophomore, junior, senior, graduate, and post-graduate slumps?

There is life in its newest entry, The Uninvited, but you have to wait 75 minutes to find the pulse. This remake is based on the Korean film A Tale of Two Sisters and is directed by Charles and Anthony Guard, billed here as The Guard Brothers, as if their last name is really Coen.

Troubled teen Anna (Emily Browning from Lemony Snicket) saw her invalid mother die in house fire and when we meet her a year later, she is explaining her recurring nightmares to a psychiatrist. It's not an outpatient arrangement, it turns out, but ten months after she arrived, Anna is free to go home with her father (David Straithairn) and try to put one foot in front of the other again.

The haunting images don't go away at home, but nothing haunts her as much as her father’s new girlfriend – and her mother’s one-time nurse – Rachael (Elizabeth Banks). Anna suspects Rachael set the fire, and believes she is now out to horn in on her dad’s money at any cost, even if it means more murders.

Hush...Hush Sweet Charlotte

The husband and I have a "date" tonight. The daughter is overnighting with some friends so we are going to veg out, eat some really good local pizza and watch Hush...Hush Sweet Charlotte with Bette Davis. It's on Turner Classic Movies tonight at 8pm. I'm really looking forward to it. We watch quite a lot of old movies on TCM, but have never seen this one. I think it's a wee bit on the scary side, but I like the old scary movies.

I've never seen a modern horror movie...unless you'd consider Fargo a horror movie. Modern horror movies simply don't appeal to me. I already have enough weirdo dreams and nightmares without filling my head with that nonsense. The old scary movies are fabulous though. Not a lot of blood and guts or bizarre twisted evil...just good old psychological suspense and entertainment. Can't wait to see it. Hope it's good.

Hush… Hush is a Grand Guignol romp from beginning to end, and Davis gets credit for giving it her all, as do her co-stars, all of whom, including Agnes Moorehead, were amazingly willing to risk their reputations and their integrity by appearing in what is essentially well-shot schlock.

"The Sweet Bird Of Youth"

"The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently."
Friedrich Nietzsche

I have been reading all the "goodbyes", watching all the comments about "thumbs down", experiencing the negative comments and games occuring on this site. Watching the "old timers" grow weary of infighting, so they leave. Seeing people attacked by leaving messages in their PM boxes. Comments about not leaving comments on blogs. Comments about thumbing down and running. Trolls. Instigators.

This has really gone on too long! "Viewgate" started last summer! People were getting reported to SN. People were being attacked. Blogs were taken off the site. All about views! Views on your blog! Is is really THAT central? So very important we hash and trash it months later?

As for me, this is my hobby. I want to "sign in" to SN, and if I choose, write a blog about what is going on in Cleveland sports-wise. I don't want to read about the fighting and games! I don't want to be saddenend when yet another friend leaves! My hobby is FUN, not a CHORE!

I don't want to be told how to increase my views, thank you very much. I don't want to be told how to write a blog. I don't want the spelling or grammar content of my blog reviewed and commented on. I write what I feel about my sports teams. I'm appeciative that anyone would read my blog. But if you agree or disagree with me is really of no consequence. And my gosh! I DON'T take it all so seriously that I attack or start rumors or look at blog view counts!

This is, first and foremost, a sports website! Can we not discuss sports and our teams? Some choose to run contests on this site, and rank and rate. That's fine. That is their website experience. If others participate, that's great! I'm not really into judging another's blog. Nor do I write my blog so that it can get ranked. I do "JD Challenges" as something fun.

My point in all of this? We're adults here! Let's start acting like adults! Share our views. Share our passion for sports! Tell eachother about our teams. LEARN about another team. LEARN about diferent cities and people all over! Share different views without fighting! That SN'ers, as I have said numerous times before, is the true essence of this site!

Look at some of the "young people" on this site (those in high-school or have just entered college). I don't see them arguing over view counts. I don't see them leaving nasty messages in PM boxes. I don't see them starting rumors. They don't let accusations fly regarding inflating view counts! They don't try to rouse eachother, nor start trouble. You know what these kids do? They write about sports! They share information! And, they support eachother! What A Concept!

We're supposed to be the Adults here. But, perhaps we can learn from the young ones on this site? They seem to be acting much more maturely than some of us. I wanted to give them a well-deserved "Shout Out". I encourage you all to read their blogs. Some of my "young" friends include:

2012wph - An SEC'r thru and thru. Blogs about college football and more! A future award-winning sports writer too!

MinnyNewfie12 - The Canuck from Newfoundland knows hockey and contributes greatly to the community with Blog Mania!

Yankees3Fan7 - Just an all-around good blogger, except for that Yankees thing!

Bill Hicks Axed Letterman Routine To Be Finally Shown

The notorious Bill Hicks routine controversially dropped from the David Letterman show will finally be aired on the programme 15 years after the legendary comedians death.

Mary Hicks, Bill's mother appeared on David Letterman’s show on Monday to tape an interview to mark the 15th anniversary of her son’s death, in a segment that set to include Bill's Mother introducing the footage of the dropped performance. The original master recordings were destroyed, but only after one copy was sent to Mary Hicks, which has never been broadcast or shown before. The segment will broadcast tomorrow in the US

Hicks was left aggrieved and outraged till the end, at what he saw as Letterman’s betrayal in dropping the routine from his show.

In what would have been his 12th appearance on the show, Hicks tackled Christianity, politics and the anti-abortion movement, including the line: ‘If you’re so pro-life, do me a favour: don’t lock arms and block medical clinics. If you’re so pro-life, lock arms and block cemeteries.’

At the end of the show Letterman acknowledged the controversial nature of the routine, saying: saying, ‘Bill, enjoy answering your mail for the next few weeks.’

Producers later told Hicks that the segment would be dropped from that night’s broadcast, saying that the network’s broadcasting standards watchdogs felt it was unsuitable for their viewers. However, it later transpired it had been the Letterman producers – not CBS – who insisted on the cut. And among the adverts aired during the show following the one in which Hicks had been due to appear was one for a pro-life moment.

Hicks expressed his feelings of betrayal in a handwritten, 39-page letter to John Lahr of The New York, in which he added that he his requests for a tape of his performance had been ignored.

Less than five months later, Hicks was died at the age of 32 from pancreatic cancer.

Morgan Stanley, Goldman mull more job cuts: report

(Reuters) - Morgan Stanley (MS.N) and Goldman Sachs (GS.N) are considering further cuts in staff, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.

Morgan Stanley is considering laying off up to 5 percent of its 47,000 employees, while Goldman Sachs is also contemplating further cuts in staff after letting go about 10 percent of its employees late last year, the paper said.

Morgan Stanley, which let go of about 7,000 employees last year, may decide on another round of staffing cuts in the next two weeks, the paper wrote.

The cuts could affect back-office and support functions including technology, infrastructure and human resources, the paper added.

For Morgan Stanley, there could also be additional cuts in riskier trading businesses which have fallen out of favor with regulators and investors, the paper reported.

For both the companies no decisions have been finalized, the paper said.

Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs were not immediately available for comment.

“Jesus Saves, Moses Invests”

I have to agree with my old friend and Bear, Stearns colleague Larry Kudlow that the Obama stimulus plan is a monstrosity. But I don’t think that the old Reagan magic will work this time. Americans postponed a decade’s worth of saving because they thought capital gains would substitute for savings. That’s what we supply siders told them. We used to ridicule savings. In 1990 I shared a podium one Sunday morning wih then Federal Reserve Governor Wayne Angell, who had just given a sermon of sorts on the virtues of saving. Jude Wanniski, the moderator, quipped, “That concludes the Baptist portion of our Sunday morning service. Now we hear from David Goldman.” When the chuckles died away, I said, “My text for today is: Jesus saves, but Moses invests.” I then explained that capital gains due to productivity increases made savings unnecessary. A few years later I wrote a piece for an economics journal in which I disputed that savings had much to do with human progress. How much stored-up capital did the Egyptians need to domesticate the cat, I asked? “A bowl of milk.” And how much labor? “Here, kitty-kitty.”

I repent. I’ve seen the light, or perhaps I’ve just gone over to the dark side. Whatever. America is tired and out of ideas. There’s no next new thing. Back in the Reagan years we had cell phones, CD players, PC’s, microwave ovens, video games, the Internet — a wave of innovations that made life different. Maybe somebody somebody will make money with genetic engineering and nano devices, but it’s not this year. Americans assumed that steadily rising asset prices were our birthright. Well, we were wrong.

Now we all want to save at once, which shuts down economic activity. The only way to save without shutting down the economy is to export. So, what should President Obama do?

1) Robert Mundell is right (well, that’s a layup, because he’s almost always right) that the US needs a corporate tax holiday followed by permanent corporate tax cuts. Corporate balance sheets are in better shape than household balance sheets, and corporations are more likely to use tax cuts to spending rather than to pay down debt, which is what households will do.

2) Get rid of the capital gains tax on homes — owner-occupied, speculator-purchased, whatever. Open the floodgates of speculation by restoring the ridiculous tax shelters of the early 1980s (where you could borrow money to buy real estate and make money off the deductions even if you lost money on the investment). Kick families out of their homes and let speculators move in. Forget about stopping foreclosures. Skew the tax system to create demand.

3) Stop browbeating China to raise the value of its currency, and fix the dollar-yuan parity as a solemn binational commitment. The U.S. wants the Chinese to stop saving so much and to start spending, and spending on American goods.

4) Cut employment taxes, as some prominent Republican economists have suggested. Nothing helps spur employment more than reducing its cost. That, by the way, takes the tax burden off the lowest earners, who pay payroll taxes but no income taxes.

5) Modify mark-to-market for bank portfolios. In a sharp business cycle downturn the financial system is ALWAYS insolvent on a mark-to-market basis. The issue is whether cash-on-cash returns are positive: to the banks earn enough on their portfolios to pay their bills? Let them in effect lie about how much capital they have. That would save a trillion dollars of taxpayer bailout funds (although some bailout money in the form of guarantees of debt will be required).

Prison employee sentenced to prison for having sex with inmate

(CNN) -- A former prison secretary has been sentenced to six months in federal prison for having sex with an inmate she was supposed to be supervising, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's office in the District of Colorado said Friday.

Janine Sligar, 47, of Wray, Colorado, was sentenced Thursday for sexual abuse of a ward. After serving her sentence, she will serve five years of supervised release and must register as a sex offender, spokesman Jeff Dorschner said in a news release.

Sligar, who must surrender to a facility designated by the Bureau of Prisons on March 2, did not respond to a telephone call to her home for comment.

She was indicted in July by a federal grand jury in Denver and pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in October.

According to the plea agreement, Sligar, a 14-year Bureau of Prisons veteran, said she and inmate Eric McClain met in February 2007, when he was assigned to clean her office.

"They began to have conversations and realized they had similar interests," the plea agreement said.

That summer, they initiated a sexual relationship that included 10 to 20 sessions of oral sex and sexual intercourse, ending in October 2007, it said.

The liaisons primarily occurred in a staff restroom in the housing unit at the Federal Prison Camp in Florence, Colorado, according to the agreement.

Sligar, who acknowledged having detailed her activities in a journal, said she obtained a cell phone with a non-local phone number so McClain could call her without raising suspicion and admitted she gave him contraband that included photographs with explicit sexual poses, the plea agreement added.

"Defendant also admitted using her cell phone camera to take graphic pictures of a sexual nature which depict defendant and this inmate," it said.

Authorities began investigating the incident after receiving a tip about the inappropriate relationship. They then learned that Sligar had changed the primary beneficiary on an insurance policy from her children to McClain. A subsequent search of her home turned up the journal and photographs.

Former prison secretary admits sex with inmate

DENVER - A former Florence prison secretary changed the beneficiaries of her life insurance from her children to an inmate with whom she had ongoing sexual relations.

When Janine Sligar pleaded guilty Friday to sexual abuse of a ward, the inmate, she admitted she had changed beneficiaries.

She faces up to 15 years in prison, but is likely to serve no more than 16 months because of sentencing guidelines. She is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 23.

A family member told an investigator about the insurance policy change, according to a plea agreement signed by Sligar and prosecutors.

Sligar, 47, admitted having sex with the inmate between 10 and 20 times from July 2007 to October 2007 at the Federal Prison Camp, where she worked and where he was in custody. The plea agreement describes sex between inmates and prison employees as "a huge security threat that compromises the institution and other correctional officers."

Agent Craig Trautner of the U.S. Justice Department's Office of Inspector General investigated Sligar after receiving information about her misconduct. The prison camp is part of the Justice Department. Sligar denied sexual involvement with the inmate until "confronted with the evidence against her," according to the eight-page plea agreement.

A search of her home revealed a journal with entries, and letters and photographs of a sexual nature, the plea agreement stated. In the court document, she admitted obtaining an additional cellular telephone "with a non-local number so the inmate could call her without raising suspicion."

She also admitted using a camera on her primary cell phone to take graphic pictures of a sexual nature depicting her and the inmate.

Sligar admitted she provided contraband, including explicit sexual photographs, a book, cards, letters and a dietary supplement, creatine, to the inmate.

U.S. District Judge Robert Blackburn asked her if she had done the things listed in the plea agreement.

"Yes, I did, your honor," she replied.

She had worked at the Florence prison complex for 14 years. When Sligar was charged in July, Assistant U.S. Attorney Linda McMahan, the prosecutor, listed Wray as Sligar's city of residence.

Bill Hicks on David Letterman tonight!

I am positively thrilled that Letterman is finally going correct a fifteen-year-old mistake and show the infamously censored Bill Hicks routine this Friday (January 30th). Hicks was a regular on The Late Show With David Letterman, appearing eleven times before becoming the first comedic act to be censored at the Ed Sullivan theater when his twelfth appearance was declared too controversial by studio execs and subsequently never aired.

Hicks was crushed, and Letterman has since voiced regret as to how things played out (Hicks died from pancreatic cancer less than six months later). Bill's mother Mary will be Dave's guest, and they will discuss both Bill's censorship and his legacy. There may not be anything new to see from this material, but it pleases me greatly that the final Bill Hicks Letterman appearance will finally see the light of day. Kudos, Dave. Better late than never.

Click the above photo and read "The Goat Boy Rises", a wonderful article from a 1993 issue of The New Yorker printed soon after Bill's Letterman performance was axed.

Sean Goldman

“It is like a nightmare for David Goldman, except that when he wakes up, it is still there. His son Sean, abducted to Brazil by the boy’s mother four years ago, remains almost in sight but always out of reach, in defiance of the laws of two nations and the world.”

“Goldman had been traveling to Brazil for every court hearing that ruled against him over the years. He went again, only to discover that his late wife’s Brazilian husband had filed a petition with local family courts to remove Goldman’s name from Sean’s birth records and replace it with his own.”

“Now, the question is how a person who is not related by blood to Sean can erase Goldman’s name from his son’s birth records.”

That is an excellent question NBC. An excellent question indeed.

Bill Hicks on Letterman, Finally

A 1993 standup performance by Bill Hicks on David Letterman that was cut from the telecast 15 years ago finally saw light of day on an unusual episode of "Late Show with David Letterman" on Friday.

Suddenly awash with guilt for cutting the performance in its entirety, months before the edgy comic died of pancreatic cancer, Letterman not only showed the entire performance, he also invited the comic's mother, Mary Hicks, on the show so he could say how sorry he was for the whole thing.

"Let me again apologize for the heartache and sadness my decision caused your family," Letterman told the white-haired lady.

"I appreciate you saying that," she said.

At the time, it was the first time a whole performance had been cut from the late night show because of content. It caused enough consternation that Hicks wrote a 39-page letter to John Lahr in the New Yorker.

Letterman said Friday he realized that decision to pull the performance from the telecast caused pain to the family, who were among the few to know about the cancer that would kill him four months later.

"I know I can't make up for the damage that was causes, but I do hope that this makes it up symbolically to you," he said.

The performance was, like a lot of Hicks' work, funny and twisted and challenging at times.
Letterman warned that some of it might be dated, but it was only in that he railed against textbooks promoting gay lifestyles (twisted, he said, except maybe for "My Two Mommys").

He also poked fun at the right to life people. If they were so serious about their calling they should stop blocking medical clinics and start blocking cemeteries, he said.

But the routine began with a segment about a new TV show he was going to do called "Let's Hunt and Kill Billy Ray Cyrus."

Coincidentally, the segment came after a promo for that night's Craig Ferguson show, in which he was discussing Miley Cyrus.

Bill Hicks: Censored David Letterman Appearance to Air Jan 30 As Memorial

Quick note here but no less important - The Late Show with David Letterman will be airing his censored appearance on Jan 30, 2008 as a tribute to the comic 15 years after Hicks’ all-too-early death of pancreatic cancer.

As announced on the Bill Hicks official web site:

“ HICKS’ LAST LETTERMAN SET TO AIR JAN 30TH

The Late Show with David Letterman has scheduled a telecast of the never-aired October 1, 1993 Bill Hicks appearance. The show was pre-taped Jan. 26th (with Bill’s mom as a guest) and will air Friday, January 30th on your local CBS affiliate. We’d like to acknowledge and thank Bill’s many fans and everyone who has had a hand in keeping Bill’s comedy and philosophy alive. We hope everyone can tune in and experience what you may have missed or what you barely remember – Bill Hicks performing for a national audience on network television.”

I don’t need to editorialize, but hey, why not? I’m a fan, and had been for a long time prior to his passing. Shared the frustration of those us who are his fans as other undeserving, watered down comics started to ape his angle and act and cash in on his groundbreaking work.

Hicks’ always readily referenced Lenny Bruce, among others, as influences on his work.

Too few comics, artists, and musicians really ever give credit where credit is due.

For the full info on Fridays airing, please CLICK HERE for the information and background. And if you have never heard the work of Bill Hicks, or George Carlin, or Mort Sahl, or Lenny Bruce - or new(er) comics like Bill Bailey or Zach Galifinakis, take some time to avail yourself of their great work.

We don’t forever have to allow in the vanilla denominator of advertising-approved network banality such as Seinfeld or Romano.

Comic work can actually say something. Even though douchebags like Dennis Miller might have one think otherwise.

Tune in, enjoy, and ask yourself “where is the new breed of such people who cut through the crap?”

They are out there btw, we just need to be aware that it’s tougher than ever to connect with them. yes, a paradox for sure given the “internet age”, but the same goes for political debate. Inherent ghettoization.

here’s some Bill Hicks on Rush Limbaugh, circa 1991 for you:

Be The DJ Of Your Cell Phone

(CBS) What does your cell phone ringtone say about you?

CNET-TV Senior Editor Natali Del Conte offered up some advice for cell phone and iPhone users who want to show a little more character when they answer their phones in public.

"What are the do's and don'ts?" asked Early Show co-anchor Julie Chen.

"I tend to be leery about the sites that say 'free ringtones,' because you have to put in a credit card and the songs that you really want are usually not free," Del Conte said. "There's usually no such thing as a free ringtone. This isn't something the carriers realized would be such a big business for them, so they overcharge us.

"One thing is -- know your plan and know what your carrier's going to charge you, because sometimes, it's up to three dollars for a snippet of a song that you can buy in its entirety for 99 cents."

Users can download the ringtones themselves for less. Del Conte picked out some programs that enable you to do that yourself.

"If you've got an iPhone," she said, "then iTunes will do it for you. So, (say) I've got iTunes running, and I choose Beyonce ("All The Single Ladies"). And what you do is you just buy a song. And then you go and tell it to create a ringtone."

On the music side, the user can choose the portion of that song he or she wants as the ringtone, and it will repeat itself in the way the user wants.

Although it's fun, it still has a price tag of 99 cents.

"So you are like the "DJ mixer of your own ringtone," said Early Show co-anchor Harry Smith.

For those who don't have an iPhone, there are other options.

"I picked ToneThis.com; it's really well-rated on download.com, which is a CBS product. But it's really high-rated, and you can use it to make things like ringtones, but also wallpaper and videos and games, and just customize your cell phone. It's the same way," Del Conte said.

"Can you get Tone-Loc on ToneThis?" asked weather anchor and features reporter Dave Price.

"You can. You can get tone anything on ToneThis. So this is for any other phone, basically, and it works on a PC instead of a Mac," Del Conte said.

Tonethis.com is software that you download for free, she continued, "but then you need to own the song, and then it sends it to you for free and then your phone as a text message, and you get the text message and click it, and download the song," Del Conte said.

It's easy for those who want to show a little more character than just having the default ringtone.

ToneThis Makes Ringtones, Wallpaper Dead Simple

Windows only: Free application ToneThis makes it simple to create MP3 ringtones, wallpaper, and videos for your cellphone. Apart from its simple MP3 ringtone creator, ToneThis sports a lot of great features—like simple tools for sending media to supported phones in a few clicks. Unfortunately those features don't always work perfectly—as CNET can attest to—but as a simple ringtone and wallpaper creator, it does the job admirably. If you decide to give it a try, be sure to read the installer carefully—this thing tries its best to install all kinds of toolbars and other crap that you probably don't want. ToneThis is a free download, Windows only.

In 2008 a suburban Chicago Veteran, MSgt. Mark Evans, was inspired by his son’s idea to send thousands of pizza’s to the troops in time for July 4th celebrations in Iraq and Afghanistan. This year he’s continuing his family’s mission by organizing the delivery of more than 2,000 pizzas for Super Bowl celebrations. Evans collected enough donations to purchase all of the pizzas, provided below cost by Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria of Northbrook Illinois.

"As a retired member of the military, I appreciate the support of the local community and DHL helping bring reminders of home to our U.S. troops stationed thousands of miles away" said Ret. Sgt. Mark Evans. "The reactions we have received by families, friends of the military and the troops themselves about this initiative have been heartwarming"

DHL was the first international air express carrier to provide service to Iraq and Afghanistan following the lifting of sanctions and now operates the most extensive logistics service into these countries.

"As the specialists in international shipping, DHL is honored to leverage its global network and transport this shipment to lift the spirits of our servicemen and women based in the Middle East" said Adrian Watts, Managing Director U.S. Government Sales and Support for DHL Express. Angela Suleman: Mother of California Octuplets Has 6 Other Children

Whittier, California is home to Angela Suleman. Prior to giving birth to eight babies earlier this week, she was living with her parents in a neat cul-de-sac neighborhood with her other six children, ages 7,6,5,3 and twin 2 year olds.

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that the woman’s partner will be returning to his job as a contract worker in Iraq in order to help support Suleman and her expanded family. The couple’s marital status is unclear.

Suleman sought fertility treatment and was implanted with numerous embryos last year and according to the mother, they all happened to take. Throughout the pregnancy, doctors thought there were seven babies. The surprise eighth baby shocked the massive delivery team that was assembled at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Bellflower, California.

Medical ethicists and fertility specialists were quick to share their arguments against the dangerous practice of implanting more than two embryo at one time. The mother was given counseling on selective reduction early on in her pregnancy but decided against terminating any of the babies.

Dr. Harold Henry, the woman’s physician said, “Our goal is to provide the best care possible no matter what the situation or circumstances are. What I do is just explain the facts. I always talk about the risks. The mother weighs those options, and she chooses the option based on spiritual or personal makeup.”

The births are only the second set of octuplets successfully delivered in the U.S. The Chukwu family of Houston is raising seven children. One of their babies died shortly after birth.

Angela Suleman, new mother of the octuplets issued this statement:

“We understand that you are all curious about the arrival of the octuplets, and we appreciate your respect for our family’s privacy. Please know in our own time, we will share additional details about this miraculous experience. The babies continue to grow strong every day and make good progress. My family and I are ecstatic about their arrival. Needless to say, the eighth was a surprise to us all, but a blessing as well. We thank all of you for the positive thoughts, prayers and generosity.”

The hospital has been flooded with gift baskets, sealed envelopes and flowers for the new mother.

Red Sox Reviews - Jason Varitek

I realize that in my last Red Sox Review, I told you that Manny Delcarmen would be coming up next. However, with today being “deadline day” and all, I thought it would be a good time to focus the microscope on Jason Varitek.

Before I get started, let’s face it that the numbers are not pretty. That makes this a difficult post for me because I’ve always been a big fan of Varitek. I sat in the stands at Boshamer Stadium in Chapel Hill and watched Varitek play while at Georgia Tech. I still remember the ridiculous, mammoth home run that Varitek hit in the College World Series. I still have a No. 33 USA Baseball t-shirt with Varitek’s name on the back hanging in my closet.

Do I think that Jason Varitek is in the “decline phase” of his career? Of course. But do I think that his 2008 results can all be blamed on diminishing skills? Not necessarily. I think that his early season illness set him back more than most people want to believe. But I’m the stats guy and the numbers are what they are, so here goes:

JASON VARITEK – 423 AB in 2008 - .220 AVG / .313 OBP / .359 SLG / .672 OPS

* - Jason Varitek leads Sox catchers all-time in hits (1,156), doubles (256), RBI (654), and walks (529). Varitek is second on the all-time Red Sox list for HR by a catcher with 161, trailing Carlton Fisk by one dinger. He has played 12 seasons with Boston, one more than Fisk and Gedman.

* - Varitek hit .157 with runners in scoring position and 2 outs in 2008 (8-51) after hitting just .162 (12-74) in those situations in 2007, the 9th and 10th worst such seasons in Red Sox history (since ’74 at least). His .160 average over the last two seasons in those situations is the 2nd lowest in the majors (min. 100 AB):

.147 – Andruw Jones
.160 – Jason Varitek
.168 – Rickie Weeks

* - In his career, Varitek has had 11 different streaks of 12 or more consecutive games without a multiple hit game. 3 of those 11 streaks came after June 1 of 2008. They included a then career-long 23 gamer in which he went 10-84 (.119) from June 1 through July 3, a 12 game streak where he went 7-39 (.179; August 3-18), and what technically is a 25 gamer (that is still active) from September 7 through the playoffs (10-78, .128).

* - In 2008, Varitek batted .119 against “fireballers” (pitchers who averaged more than one strikeout per inning), the second lowest such average in the majors (min. 60 such PA):

.071 – Geovanni Soto, CHC
.119 – Jason Varitek, BOS (7-59)
.121 – Jim Thome, CHW

* - Varitek’s .302 OBP at Fenway in 2008 was the 3rd lowest seasonal mark by a Red Sock since 1997 (min. 200 home PA):

.271 – Shea Hillenbrand, 2001
.301 – Shea Hillenbrand, 2002
.302 – Jason Varitek, 2008
.305 – Darren Lewis, 1999

* - Varitek’s career average from Sept 1 on is now just .229 and over the last four seasons it’s .201, the lowest such average in the majors during that span (min. 300 total Sept/Oct PA over the last 4 seasons):

.201 – Jason Varitek
.205 – Mike Cameron
.214 – Pedro Feliz
.216 – Jason Giambi

* - With the bases loaded, Varitek has just 125 RBI in 192 AB (0.651 RBI/AB), the lowest such RBI/AB average since they began tracking the stat in 1974 (min. 140 career AB with bases loaded):

0.651 – Jason Varitek
0.653 – Enos Cabell
0.663 – Tony Pena

* - Tek’s .607 OBP following a 3-0 count was the 3rd lowest in the AL last season (min. 25 such PA):

.533 – Mark Teahen, KC
.564 – Johnny Damon, NYY
.607 – Jason Varitek, BOS

* - In “Close and Late” situations in 2008, Varitek went 10-64 (.156) with 9 singles and 1 HR (.203 SLG). That slugging percentage was the 2nd lowest in the AL last season (min. 60 such AB):

.179 – Jack Hannahan, OAK
.203 – Jason Varitek, BOS
.210 – Carlos Gonzalez, OAK

It was the lowest slugging percentage in those situations by a Red Sox hitter since 1992 (same minimum):

.203 – Jason Varitek, 2008
.207 – Alex Gonzalez, 2006
.234 – Jose Offerman, 2001

* - Odds and Ends: Varitek hit 5 HR against the Orioles in 2008, tied with four others (including Manny Ramirez) for the most by any Orioles opponent last season… With 2 outs and 2 strikes in 2008, Varitek hit .111 (8-72) with 45 strikeouts, including strikeouts in 18 of his last 22 such AB… Over the last 4 seasons, Varitek is 10-76 (.132) against the Angels during the regular season, the lowest such average by any Angels opponent over that span (min. 70 PA). During that same span, he is 5-25 (.200) against the Angels in the postseason… Varitek managed only a .235 average against Detroit in 2008, snapping a personal five-year streak of batting averages of .333 or better against the Tigers.

Thanks to Baseball-Reference for their statistical help. Check back soon for more Red Sox Reviews! As always, I’d love to hear from you, so leave a comment or send me an email at gmarbry@weei.com.

Wing Bowl 17 Primed Hits Philadelphia; Contestants Battle for 2009 Mini Cooper Clubman

Wing Bowl 2009 Will Have 27 Contestants Compete to See Who Can Eat the Most Wings with Prizes Going to the Winner and Their Entourage

Wing Bowl 17 is coming to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Wing Bowl 17 will pit some of the best wing eaters in the world against each other to decide the 2009 Wing Bowl Champion. The competition will all come down to the final 27 contestants, all of which would love to own the title of Wing Bowl Champion, and who all bring their own unique eating styles to the competition. When Wing Bowl 17 gets underway on Friday morning, thousands of fans will get to watch as the new Wing Champion is crowned.

Wing Bowl 17 is set to take place at 5:30am on Friday, January 30th in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The competition will take place at the Wachovia Center, where a sold out crowd will have the chance to watch a new competitor take over the title. This year's competition had a couple of rule changes, including limiting the field of competitors to only amateur contestants, allowing for there to be a changing of the guard in the title holder. According to the Wing Bowl web-site, only 3 different people had won over the past 8 years, and this was felt to be a good way to get some new blood into the battle.

The Wing Bowl is definitely a competition of over-eaters, and you have to be a fan of wings in order to get anything out of a competition like this. In the world of eating competitions though, it is quite serious business, with people competing who have trained on how to eat their wings the fastest, and seeing how many they can do in a specific period of time. It will be a challenge for new-comers to live up to the feats that have been accomplished in the past, and it will be interesting to see whether a brand new name can live up to the billing of Wing Bowl Champion.

The weigh-in for Wing Bowl 17 was set to take place at Chickie's & Pete's Crab House and Sports Bowl, with a grouping of each person's entourage and a revealing of the Wingettes for this years event. Chickie's & Pete's will also hold a post Wing Bowl party starting at 9am on Friday after the Wing Bowl champion has been crowned. The annual event is quickly becoming a fan favorite in the Philadelphia area, and is being watched by thousands. The contestants for this years events are an interesting lot (listed at the bottom with their nickname and qualifications) and it is anybody's guess who will come out on top this year.

Wing Bowl 17 (2009 videos)

I must admit I am new with this Wing Bowl update. What is wing bowl? Wing Bowl is an eating competition which is held before the start of Super Bowl. Whew.. Interesting huh. I got these videos online which tackles Wing Bowl 17. I find it hard to explain more about Wing Bowl 2009. So, just watch the videos I collected from youtube.

May be I can give an accurate post about Wing Bowl 18 next year, hahaha! Forgive me guys. As I've said this event is new to me, and there is nothing much to tell insofar as other sites are concerned.

McGinley in sequel to popular TV movie

They also bring a catch: "Usually, the movie-of-the-week is just so lame," Ted McGinley said.

Two exceptions, he feels, are his Hallmark Channel films -- last season's "The Note" and the new "The Note II: Taking a Chance on Love." They run as a double feature Saturday, starting at 6 p.m.

The original had the notion that someone had written a note as a plane was about to crash.

"I'm fascinated by the thought of that," McGinley said.

In this case, the note was pursued by Peyton (Genie Francis), a newspaper columnist, with help from her boyfriend (McGinley). She ended up learning about her own life.

Nasty Nestor Arapicio Attacks Gordon Keith

This morning on Radio Row at Super Bowl 43 in Tampa, “Nasty Nestor” Aparicio, a controversial Baltimore radio host attacked Gordon Keith. The incident is the latest in an on-going feud between Nasty Nestor and the Ticket.

Apparently, Gordon Keith went over to Nasty Nestor Arapicio with a wireless microphone to attempt to bury the hatchet between the two parties, when Nasty Nestor became angry, grabbed Gordon Keith around the throat and attempted to strangle him. The two were then separated and the police were called.

This is not the first incident between Nasty Nestor and the Ticket. In 2008, at the Super Bowl coverage, Corby Davidson went to Nasty Nestor to make peace. Nestor Arapicio began swearing at Corby Davidson and accused him of having a hidden mic, to which Corby responded, “I swear to the good Lord I do not have a microphone.” Nasty Nestor then called Corby a “(Explitive)-ing Jew.”

In the latest incident, Gordon Keith did have a microphone, but it is clear from the audio that he was not trying to provoke Nasty Nestor. Keith is now considering whether or not to file charges against Nasty Nestor. Anyone who was recording the live webcast of the incident, which was broadcast on the Ticket’s webcam, is encouraged to contact the Ticket immediately.

Nasty Nestor is no stranger to controversy. In addition to his alleged anti-semitic comments, Nestor Arapicio has written complaining about the homeless and led a walk-out from a Baltimore Orioles game.

Gigi Rice is Hot!

Gigi Rice is hot! Well she is really hot just by looking at the photo above. But she is even hotter today because she is the most searched person for today. Check the screenshot below.

I don't know why she's searched this much today. There should be something that caused it. Perhaps she was mentioned in a talk show or something. So anyway, Gigi Rice is an Ohio State University Graduate and she majored in Theater. She is an actress and is married to Ted McGinley. They have two children, Hope and Faith. That's all for now about Gigi Rice. i'll be adding more if I find out what prompted the sudden rise in searches for her name.

Seattle Earthquake 2009: Tremors Shake People Awake

Families are shaken but okay after a 4.5-magnitude earthquake near Seattle, Washington. The earthquake hit at 5:25 a.m. Friday.
Seattle Earthquake 2009: Western Washington Effects

The Seattle earthquake was technically centered just outside of the city, about 14 miles northwest of Seattle near the town of Kingston. Its effects, though, could be felt all throughout Western Washington’s Puget Sound area — even all the way to Victoria, British Columbia. That’s a full 71 miles away.

Many people reported being shaken awake by the noise and vibrations. One man told Fox News it seemed “like something had hit the roof.” Some families recall feeling the shaking for as long as 15 seconds.

No major damage or injuries have been reported.

Denied Phish Tickets... Again (Sub Title: Live Nation Blows Camel Balls)

I love Phish. I take so much guff from my friends and family for being a Phishead and following them all over the world. But you know what? I don't care about that. They can make fun of me all they want because in the end... it's their loss. The music of Phish moves me, inspires me, and soothes me.

Yes, I've seen Phish 151 times including six shows in Japan in 2000. I loved them that much that I made the trek to Japan to see them play their music and share it with an entirely different culture. I saw my first show at the Wetlands in 1989 as a snot-nosed high school kid in New York City and the last show I saw (obviously) was Coventry in Vermont. I walked five miles in the mud with my friend Molly to see them. That's dedication.

I was working in London in October 2008 when I heard the serious whispers of an impending reunion. Based on a strong and reliable tip from one of our readers, I booked a hotel room in Hampton, VA for four nights... and I waited... and waited. And then we got the message that every Phishead had been waiting for.... the boys were returning for Hampton for a three show run.

Phish is back.

I went through the mail order process and got stiff-armed. I went the Ticketbastard route and got shut out. That's when the whispers of the ticket-conspiracies began popping up. Only a handful of my friends that were Phisheads actually got tickets. The rest were gobbled up by brokers and other corporate ticket entities... one of them owned by Ticketbastard themselves.

The only way that I was going to Hampton... was to buy a ticket from a scalper. (Hold off on that thought for a second...)

Flash forward to the 2009 summer tour announcement. Everyone got pumped and bubbled over with excitement. The Joker felt as though the summer tour would alleviate the demand for Hampton tickets and overall tickets. Ergo, he honestly felt deep in his heart that we'd get to see our favorite band... for face value.

Of course, we went through the mail order process for summer tour (including the added date for Knoxville). I requested tickets to 11 shows and I only scored two lawn seats to Burgettstown. My girlfriend only scored one lawn ticket to Burgettstown. Ooooomph. Three tickets to Pittsburgh. All lawn.

I had to call in a favor from an old friend from college to score a ticket to Asheville. I paid him 2x the amount and have to give the guy poker lessons. I thought that was a fair trade for a hot ticket.

And then the day of reckoning... the first wave of public tickets sold at Live Nation on Friday morning. I woke up bright an early on the West Coast to pick up tickets. I expected a clusterfuck and got one. I kept getting timed out. When I finally reached Deer Creek it shot out an error page. Repeat that process for an hour before I gave up.

Frustrating is a word that came too mind. Futile was another, like a monkey trying to fuck a football.

A internet savvy friend of mine told me that there are armies of workers paid by online ticket mafioso types to do just what we are doing... trying to buy tickets. Add the thousands of Phisheads to the mix and you have a limited amount of tickets available to real fans.

Maybe the gang at Phish will try to re-think their ticketing system and give the power back to the fans instead of it getting sucked up by the brokers and ruthless corporations.

So now, where does that leave me? A rabid fan who only scored tickets via lottery to one show out of 14. I scored another via the old-fashioned barter method. I feel lucky that I even got those tickets.

But what about Hampton... and the rest of the summer tour?

I have three options...

1. I need a miracle. I have to get lucky and hope that I built up enough karma that someone (a fan or reader) will give me one of their extra tickets at face value. I'm a gambling man and I figured that the percentages of that actually happening are low. Maybe I can score one ticket that way. Two at the max.

2. Shakedown Street. I guess I can get lucky and try to score a ticket in the lot or in Shakedown Street. But to be honest, the kids and freaks and scammers and wookies in the lot today have zero honor. They'll rip you off in two seconds if they are given the chance. Even then, I'm gonna have to pay at least double face for the chance to get a legit ticket. I figured that I could score one or two legit tickets via Shakedown. And I can't imagine how many bunk tickets will be going around the lots this summer.

3. Broker. My last resort is a broker. If I buy from a broker, then I hurt my fellow Phisheads and destroy the community. The only way to render those brokers/corporate ticket thieves powerless are to not by tickets from them. In theory, that should work. In reality, I have a life to lead and it's short. I love Phish and want to go see them. I also bust my ass to make money as a freelance writer and I also play a little poker on the side to supplement my income. I have substantially more money now than I did during Phish 1.0 and Phish 2.0. A decade ago, I was a long-haired tour rat slinging pharmies in the lot to pay for tickets and relying upon my girlfriend to whip up a batch of veggie burritos to sell for gas money. Tickets were at a much smaller demand then and the technology wasn't as sophisticated as today. None of that matters.

Today is what counts. And there's a battle between the haves and the have nots. The haves are the corporations like Ticketbastard and the various ticket brokers. The have nots are you and me... the phans. We walked into Coventry. We were made fun of by our friends. We were harassed by redneck cops in the South for "looking like pot smoking hippies." We even sat through Velvet Sea encores even though we couldn't stand that song. Some of us even followed around second and third-rate jambands just to get a Phishy fix.

And now at the day of reckoning... public sale... all we want is a fair shot at buying a ticket. Alas, that did not happen. I used to live in Las Vegas and I play enough poker to know when the fix is in or you're playing against a stacked deck. The house always wins.

So there you have it. My tirade in a nutshell. I have three options to see Phish this summer. I'm praying for a miracle from friends. I have to trust that shady wookie with an extra in the lot won't fuck me over. And I'll have to cut into my gambling wins in order to buy a couple of Hampton tickets from a broker. Heck, at least the broker will sell you a legit ticket. Maybe it's worth the hefty price... to guarantee that you get into the show instead of rolling the dice with a spun out wookie with a flat-billed STS9 hat.

I miss the good old days when you had to go to the post office with a wad of cash to buy money orders for Phish mail order tickets. Then you drew cool designs on your envelopes in hopes that whoever checked Phish's mail in the Burlington office would pick your funky envelope out of the pile.

In 151 shows, I only got shut out of 2 shows that I wanted to see... first night of Radio City Music Hall in NYC (May 2000) and first night in Tokyo (June 2000). My buddy Senor and I stood outside the back door of the Tokyo venue to hear the gig with a small group of other heads who flew to Japan but didn't have a ticket to that show. Looks like I'm going to add a few shows to that list... like St. Louis.

I have the time off from work. I have the money. I just don't have the tickets. So... who's got my extras? I'm looking for everything on this summer with the exception of Asheville and Burgettstown.

I also have one extra lawn to Burgettstown that I'm looking to trade for an extra lawn at Alpine Valley or Deer Creek. Let me know if you want to swap. Shoot me an email.

Editor's Note:

A quick update... Daddy's sister scored an extra lawn ticket to Alpine Valley both nights. They graciously miracle'd me those tickets.

My buddy Iggy from MMAJunkie.com scored me a Deer Creek lawn seat. Wee!

So now I have Alpine & Deer Creek locked up. I'm still looking for Jones Beach (both nights), Great Woods, Camden, Knoxville, and St. Louis. Oh and any Hampton extras... of course.

Phish tickets go on sale this morning

Tickets for reunited jamband Phish go on sale this morning. Visit www.phish.com and www.livenation.com for ticket information.

The band originally from Vermont will open their tour with two shows — June 4-5 — at the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater on Long Island, before launching a trek that will wind up weeks later at Alpine Valley Music Theater in East Troy, Wisc.

Phish has a long history in the Hudson Valley. The band performed at The Chance in Poughkeepsie and years later, during their first hiatus, bass player Mike Gordon and guitarist Trey Anastasio performed an impromptu jam during a party at Allaire Studios in Shokan during the 2002 Woodstock Film Festival.

During an interview with the Journal in 2002, Gordon said, "My favorite moment at The Chance -- no one was in the room during a soundcheck. Fishman and I were sleeping in a van right by the stage door and someone came to get us. We got on stage and both of us were still in alpha stages, still in a dream state, and we played really steady bass and drums, unvarying but very hypnotic. Sometimes sound checks were more hypnotic and mesmerizing than the gigs. Trey and Page did a very ambient ... they did these very light, very fluttery patterns over steady bass and drums. It was one of the best musical experiences ever.''

Here is the full Phish tour schedule:

6.04.09 Nikon at Jones Beach Theater, Wantagh, NY
6.05.09 Nikon at Jones Beach Theater, Wantagh, NY

“Jughead” Review: The Other Side of Charles Widmore

Now that you’ve seen “Jughead,” you know just how extraordinarily game-changing it was. Not only did Charlotte most likely die, but more importantly, it was revealed that back in the 1950s, Charles Widmore was an Other.

This changes just about everything we knew or thought we knew about the man who commissioned the freighter. His feud with Ben finally makes sense. Sure, we still don’t know what caused them to become bitter rivals, but knowing that Widmore used to live on the Island gives us a pretty good idea how it started.

It also informs everything he’s done up to this point, and while I genuinely assume the Lost writers are making it up as they go along, the fact that Widmore used to live on the Island is something that definitely seems to have been planned all along. Everything he’s done makes perfect sense now.

Also, it was nice to see a softer side of Charles. I’m not talking about back on the Island, when he was a lowly Other who got chewed out by his superiors. I mean the Charles Widmore who asks about his daughter, not for some evil motive, but because he knows what Ben is capable of and fears for her life.

The episode also helped to fill in some other big plot holes from last season. Why was Richard Alpert present at Locke’s birth and why did he visit him as a young child? It’s because Locke told him to do it, and I’m beginning to suspect that’s only the start of things that were predetermined. Why did Alpert recruit Juliet? Because he met her in the past. Why did Widmore pay for Faraday’s studies? Because he met him in the past. With this time traveling plot, everything can be explained.

Lost is great once again because, after four long seasons of posing some huge questions about what’s going on, “Jughead” felt like it contained nothing but answers.

Lucedio Abbey - The Scariest Place on Earth

Ring might be the scariest movie ever, or Exorcist or….(Your choice here)…but the Lucedio Abbey is the scariest place on Earth.

1. Torture

2. Child Molestation

3. Murder

4. Disturbing rituals

5. The Wet Pillar in the judgment room that ‘cries’ because of all the cruelty.

6. The crypt under the abbey where all the abbots are buried, sitting in a circle.

7. Mummified abbots.

8. A strange fog that appears….

Maybe the Japanese can make a movie here….if the filmmakers dare.

Lucedio Abbey in Italy

The Lucedio Abbey in Italy is a place where torture, child molestation, murder and disturbing rituals were believed to have been preformed. Many say this one of Italy's most haunted places.

Lucedio Abbey dates back to 1123. During that time, Cistercian monks resided there and introduced rice cultivation to the area. Years later, the peaceful abbey became a place of such horrible acts that word eventually reached Rome. Under direct orders from Pope Pio VI, the Abbey was finally closed (it took 100 years) on September 10, 1784.

In the judgement room (room where all the monks made their decisions about sentences for people's crimes) a pillar mysteriously appears wet. People say that it "cries" because of all the cruelty it has seen. In another area of the building a strange fog has been seen forming numerous times for no explainable reason. Under the church is the crypt where all the abbots are buried. People say that an evil presence was captured down there and locked inside. It was believed that in oder for the presence to remain locked inside the crypt, it needed to be guarded. A number of abbots were buried in a sitting position in a circle. As if this was not strange enough, in time, all the abbots became mummified in a natural way.

Lucedio Abbey has been investigated in the past for paranormal activity. The once popular show Scariest Places On Earth filmed a family while attempting to spend the night there. From what I recall there was a lot of activity. More recently the cast from Ghost Hunters International did an investigation there and had their own creepy encounters while on the premises. We'll be able to see their investigation of the abbey in the second episode of the new upcoming SciFi show. (Ghost Hunters International will air Wednesday nights on SciFi at 9pm ET starting January 9th)
