Billy Powell, Lynyrd Skynyrd Keyboard Player Dies in Florida

"Billy Powell on the piano," are the words Ronnie Van Zandt once wailed from the stage when Lynyrd Skynyrd was at its peak in the seventies. The band suffered a horrific plane crash in that decade, and now the band has lost its keyboard player as well. Billy Powell passed away, a report from AOL's celebrity and entertainment website TMZ.Com is reporting.

According to a report form Jacksonville.Com, the keyboard player had an appointment with a physician that is identified as a heart specialist but he was unable to keep that appointment.

The report is breaking, but it appears as if a call was placed to 911 from a condo in Florida and emergency crews raced to the scene but were unable to revive Powell and the report details that he was pronounced dead on the scene.

Only two of the original members were still playing with the band recently, guitarist Gary Rossington and Billy. Powell joined the band in 1972.
