At least 50 killed, 200 injured in Mumbai attack (2nd lead)

At least fifty people are reported to be shot dead and several hundred injured, when terrorists struck Mumbai late Wednesday evening, firing indiscriminately and bombing posh hotels and important places in South Mumbai..

AT THE POSH Taj hotel, a huge ball of fire was reported behind the dome of famous Taj hotel and reports said that terrorists had taken few tourists hostage at the Oberoi hotel. Police said that a live bomb was recovered near the Gateway of India which repotedly has been defused.

Gunshots were heard from the Taj hotel, where two or more terrorists are reported to be holed inside the premises, but the details coming from Mumbai are sketchy at this point in time.

Eyewitnesses said that encounter is on between police and terrorists at Oberoi and the Anti-Terror Squad is trying to free the hostages. Two to three terrorists are reported to be holed up in Oberoi hotel and were giving a tough time to the security men.

There are reports of a blast in Vile Parle and a grenade attack in Santa Cruz. There was a blast reported at Napean sea road and police is said to have confiscated a boat off the Mumbai harbour. Few policemen (number unconfirmed) have been killed and a few injured in the attack.
