On Oct. 17, the seniors hosted a dessert theater where they performed the play "School Days," directed by parent Tracey Payne. The junior class served desserts and drinks prior to the performance. The play raised funds toward the annual senior spring trip.
"The play was a good five to six weeks of dedication and focus," Payne said. "It was a great time and hard work."
The cross country teams finished their season on Oct. 11 at the third annual CCS Invitational meet, held at the San Angelo State Park. Nine other teams competed from the area. Coach Mills Caraway was pleased with the turnout and said of the 2008 season, "We had the best season yet for individual runners."

The varsity team, coached by L'ren Jones and Lora Bird, won the Texas Christian Athletic League state title in San Antonio on Nov. 1. Community service is important to the Cornerstone family. The journalism class volunteers monthly at Sagecrest Alzheimer's unit and its Greenhouses. The class went to Sagecrest and painted pumpkins with the residents. The orchestra went to the Adult Enrichment Center of San Angelo to play for them. The fourth grade is assisting Meals for the Elderly monthly. The entire school is collecting Christmas gifts for our troops.
Cornerstone students have taken some great field trips this fall. Second grade went to the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts to learn more about art, artists and how they are inspired. Fourth grade went to Fort McKavett as part of their study of Texas history. The science classes have visited the Angelo State University Planetarium as well as the weather station at the airport. The speech class attended a session at the district court where they were able to see a practical application of the public speaking skills they have been studying.
On a final note, the campaign has begun. No, not the next presidential campaign but the capital campaign. CCS has begun a campaign to raise money to build a new elementary school, to extend the gym, enlarge parking areas, and to update the existing building. More than $1 million has been raised. CCS is a growing school, literally and spiritually.
Sarah Lumsdon is a journalism student at Cornerstone Christian School.
