BARACK OBAMA - OBAMA GOES O'BARMY FOR IRISH SONGSTERS

A band who penned a hit song about Barack Obama's Irish roots have been invited to perform at his presidential inauguration.

After learning that the president-elect's ancestors were from County Offaly, London-based act the Corrigan Brothers crafted a track entitled There's No One as Irish as Barack O'Bama.

With its catchy lyrics including: "O'Leary, O'Reilly, O'Hare and O'Hara... there's no one as Irish as Barack O'Bama", the song became an online hit, earning over a million hits on YouTube and helping the Corrigan Brothers land a record deal.

They have since appeared on TV shows across the world with the song and have now been invited to perform at the day parade on the Irish-American float, and again in the evening at Mr Obama's inauguration party on January 20th.

"We heard that Obama's ancestors were from Moneygall via the local rector Canon Stephen Neill and it inspired us to come up with something about his link to Moneygall, just for the pure fun of it," said Ger Corrigan of the novelty hit.

Mr Obama recently confirmed his Irish roots, telling ITN: "There's a little village in Ireland where my great-great-great grandfather came from and I'm looking forward to going there and having a pint."
