Jeremy Lin to Santa Clara: Holiday’s over

Jeremy Lin scored a game-high 17 points as Harvard defeated Santa Clara, 73-68, last night at Lavietes Pavilion. The swingman converted 5-of-6 free throws in the final 1:40 to help the Crimson hold off the Broncos (7-8).

Drew Housman had 16 points, four in the final 30 seconds, for Harvard (7-6). Doug Miller had 15 points and Peter Boehm 13.

Bryant 69, Yale 58 - In Smithfield, R.I., Peter Lambert’s 16 points helped the Bulldogs (2-11) claim their first home victory since moving to Div. 1, as they beat the Elis (2-9) to snap a 10-game losing skid.

Babson 81, Cal Tech 42 - Marcus Edwards had 22 points in 22 minutes for the Beavers (8-3), who routed Cal Tech (0-10) in Pasadena, Calif.

Becker 80, Springfield 68 - Travis Suber scored 27 as the visiting Hawks (6-2) swallowed the Pride (6-4) at the Naismith Classic.

Wesleyan 71, Wheelock 64 - The Cardinals (3-5) got a double-double from David Maltz to beat the Wildcats (2-6) in Middletown, Conn.

Northwood 81, Emmanuel 72 - In West Palm Beach, Fla., DeSean White had 30 points and 12 rebounds as the Seahawks (11-1) soured the trip for the Saints (2-6).

U. of New England 92, Suffolk 76 - The Nor’easters (7-3) used Johnnie Jefferson’s 22 points to top the Rams (0-7) in Biddeford, Maine.cw2cw2

Amherst 74, Pomona 52 - The Lord Jeffs (9-0) went 11-of-16 from behind the 3-point line in the first half to cruise past the Sagehens (2-8) in Pasadena, Calif.cw0cw0

Williams 94, CCNY 47 - Blake Schultz (16 points) helped the Ephs (8-3) jump out to a 25-0 lead and double up the Beavers (0-11) in Williamstown.

In Top 25 action:

South Carolina 85, Baylor 84 - Devan Downey had 23 points, Zam Fredrick hit what proved to be the game-winner with 5.1 seconds left and the Gamecocks (10-2) rallied to upset the 19th-ranked Bears (12-2) in Waco, Texas.

Texas 78, Appalachian St. 43 - Dexter Pittman set career highs with 21 points and 11 rebounds, helping the No. 8 Longhorns (11-2) rout the Mountaineers (5-5) in Austin, Texas.

Syracuse 59, S. Florida 54 - Andy Rautins scored 14 points and Arinze Onuaku added 13 for the 13th-ranked Orange (14-1), who led by 16 at halftime but struggled to put the Bulls (5-8) away in Tampa.

Hockey

Northeastern 3, W. Michigan 1 - Brad Thiessen’s 23 saves helped the Huskies (12-3-2) harness the Broncos (3-12-4) at the Dodge Holiday Classic in Minneapolis.

BU 6, RPI 2 - The Terriers (12-4-1) used third-period goals from Jason Lawrence, Luke Popko and Brandon Yip to pull away from the Engineers (3-14-1) at the Denver Cup.cw-3cw-3

Quinnipiac 5, Harvard 2 - Jean-Marc Beaudoin and Bryan Leitch had two goals apiece for the Bobcats (10-6-1), who routed the Crimson (4-9-2) in Hamden, Conn.

Minn.-Duluth 2, UMass-Lowell 1 - Justin Fontaine’s second-period, power-play goal proved to be the game-winner for the Bulldogs (9-4-6), who bested the River Hawks (8-9) at the Shillelagh tournament in Hoffman Estates, Ill.cw-0cw-0

Vermont 6, Colgate 4 - Peter Lenes’ two goals helped the Catamounts (10-4-2) jump out to a 5-1 lead and top the Raiders (5-8-4) in Burlington, Vt.

RIT 3, Bentley 2 - Dustin Cloutier’s two goals weren’t enough to take the Falcons (6-9-1) past the Tigers (9-9-1) in Waltham.
