supercross results: Anaheim 1 Supercross Results

Anaheim 1 proved to be what might be the craziest race of the season. Both divisions saw crashes and upsets as well as blazing speed and determination. Jake Weimer took the Lites class on his Monster Pro Circuit Kawasaki while Josh Grant snagged the Supercross main event on his JGR Yamaha.

The Lites started out with Dan Reardon pulling the holeshot on his Honda, but Weimer was quick to move by in the opening minutes. Behind him, the two reigning champions Jason Lawrence (West) and Trey Canard (East) went down in a pileup. Weimer’s teammate, Ryan Morais, claimed second while Rockstar Makita Suzuki star Ryan Dungey worked into third from a 10th-place start.

The 450 main event was even crazier with James Stewart out front early after taking the lead from holeshotting Grant. Chad Reed was quick to run down and pass the Yamaha rider for first on his Rockstar Makita Suzuki. It looked as though he might run away before JS pulled out the stops and charged back by for a clean pass. However, almost immediately after, Stewart made a mistake entering the whoops and crossed into Reed’s line, taking out his front wheel. Reed flipped over the bars and landed safely in some soft dirt, but Stewart wasn’t so lucky. The YZ-F rider piled headfirst into the face of a whoop and was stunned, remaining motionless as Reed remounted and rode away. As JS attempted to push his Yammie off the track, it was right into the path of oncoming Kevin Windham and they both went down in a heap. JS was unable to restart his machine and gave up the race while Reed put his RM-Z into the final podium position.

Grant held on, despite wrapping a Tuff Block cover into his rear wheel for the last two laps which had his wheel locked over the jumps and smoking by the time he crossed the checkered flag. Andrew Short put his Red Bull Honda into second, but couldn’t take advantage of Grant’s ailing 450F.
