You know he's got a good sense of humor. After all, Kinky Friedman, before becoming a well-known detective fiction writer, was the leading member of the band, Kinky Friedman and the Texas Jewboys. What Would Kinky Do? How to Unscrew a Screwed-Up World is one of those books that has equal measure laugh-out-loud moments and make-you-think, then laugh-out-loud, either out of sheer pleasure, or utter confusion.

It is easy to see why Friedman is a celebrated fiction writer: the man can write. He intersperses biographical sketches with fictional elements and practically stream of conscious writing, while still remaining very funny throughout. The best thing about this book is Friedman's dry wit and the way he crafts his words, which can be both sarcastic and touching. It's hard to pick out exactly where the humorist leaves off and the man underneath begins.

The good thing about What Would Kinky Do is that you don't have to worry about where that line gets blurred. It is one of those sit-back-and-relax books, written solely to provide pleasure for others.
