Fardeen has lost it

Recently, when Fardeen Khan was in the US to look after his ailing father he lost his passport. The actor was scheduled to start shooting for Shyam Bajaj's Jai Veeru from December 12 and had planned to return to India on December 1. But all his plans were jeopardised, thanks to the lost passport.

Fardeen's business manager, Rajkumar Tiwari says, "Yes, Fardeen lost his passport on November 27 and now he is stuck in the US. He has lodged an official complaint and has spoken to the Indian embassy as well. He was supposed to be back on December 1 but now all his plans have gone awry. We will inform everybody as soon as the problem is solved."

When asked if he would be able to make it to the shooting schedule of Jai Veeru, he says, "Of course, he will be able to make it. He has to finish with the formalities first, get the permission to come back, following which he will apply for a fresh passport here. We are in the process of getting it done."

Fardeen Khan remained unavailable for comment.

Look who's walking!

Vidya has taken up walking with a vengeance to lose the extra weight that has invited a lot of flak from all quarters. Keen to not disrupt her regular exercise schedule, she fooled Shahid Kapoor into joining her for a walk to their hotel in Toronto, where they were staying during the shooting of Aziz Mirza's Lucky Charm.

Vidya, Shahid and the rest of the crew of Lucky Charm were dining at a local restaurant. The cast, including Shahid, was very exhausted after a whole day of shooting. Despite being tired, Vidya decided to walk all the way to the hotel.

Our source from Toronto says, "The hotel was a good 45 minutes away, but Vidya told Shahid that it was only a 10-minute walk." Shahid was extremely reluctant. But the rest of the cast, too, joined Vidya and convinced Shahid to walk with them. By the time Shahid realised that he had been fooled, it was too late. The entire gang had reached more than halfway by then.

"Everyone joined Vidya in the fun. Soon, it was Shahid versus the rest of them. However, Shahid took it very sportingly. By the time they reached the hotel, he had a huge grin on his face," our source adds.

When contacted, Vidya was shocked to learn that we knew about the incident. She laughed and said, "Yes, I love walking. It has helped me to lose my extra kilos. I am game for it anytime of the day."

Shuru ho jaa, mamu

Sanjay Dutt is already on a mission to retrieve his position in Bollywood. The 48-year-old actor is having high-profile meetings to finalise his future films. The buzz is that his latest conquest is Vishal Bharadwaj's much-talked-about film, Julia, which is based on the life and times of famous Indian actress and stuntwoman of the '30s, Marry Ann Evans aka Fearless Nadia. A source close to the actor says, "He has agreed to do the film in principle. But we're yet to finalise the details."

The story goes that Vishal Bharadwaj and Sanjay Dutt had a couple of meetings in the past. After a detailed script narration, an impressed Dutt had readily agreed to do the film. However, he was pre-occupied with the court proceedings then and had refused to commit any dates.

From what we hear, he has resumed fresh talks with the producers UTV Motion Pictures. If all goes well, he will be paired opposite Run Lola Run actress Franka Potente, who was recently in the city to undergo a customary screen test.

A source from the production house says, "If all goes well, Dutt will start filming for us next year. We have to wait till he finishes his pending projects. We have to finish the paper work before making a formal announcement."

When quizzed about Dutt featuring in the ambitious project, Siddharth Roy, COO of UTV Motion Pictures says, "No comments."

Julia is set in the 1930s Bollywood and has been written in collaboration with Matthew Robbins, who has written The Sugarland Express and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, in the past. Bharadwaj had once referred to the film as 'an out and out entertainer' in one of his rare interviews. Speculations are rife that director Bharadwaj is also in talks with a bunch of actors including Ajay Devgan and Kareena Kapoor for other roles in the film.

A Priceless Gift

Kashmera Shah's boyfriend Krushna Abhishek gave her a huge surprise on her birthday, last Saturday. While she was getting ready for her birthday party at a suburban night club, Krushna closed her eyes and asked her to guess what he had bought for her. Kashmera made several guesses but could not guess what her gift was.

Krushna gifted her a dress worth Rs 95,000. But, what made the gift even more special for Kashmera was that it was the same outfit that she had liked when she had visited a high-end boutique a week before her birthday. She, however, did not buy the dress as she found it too expensive.

Kashmera says, "I had seen this dress at a boutique in Breach Candy. But when I got to know it's price, I backed out. I don't buy such expensive outfits. I had casually told Krushna that I had liked that dress, but I didn't know that he'll buy it for me!"

Naturally, Kashmera wore the same dress to the party. "I was getting into my usual Western wear. But once I got the gift in hand, I couldn't resist wearing it immediately," Kashmera adds.

On date, Kashmera and Krushna are contesting in Nach Baliye 3. Krushna hosted Kashmera'sparty. "This is Krush's biggest present so far. I am overwhelmed," says Kashmera.

Victoria Beckham aka Posh Spice thinks people are ‘true fans’ if they need medical attention when they meet her.

The Spice Girls star, who reunited with the rest of the girl group for the start of their ‘Return of the Spice Girls’ tour in Vancouver, Canada on Sunday, believes people who burst into tears or pass out and need an ambulance prove they are her truly dedicated admirers.

The 33-year-old Spice Girl was mobbed by fans earlier this year when she arrived in Japan to promote a new line of cosmetics and encountered several devotees who proved their commitment by shedding tears upon meeting their idol.

In a video posting on her official website, she says, “When I went to Japan recently, there were lots of lovely little Japanese people there to greet me. There were tears, which I always like. I think that shows you are a true fan, when you cry or when you pass out.

“When the paramedics are called, it’s always a good sign. That shows real determination as a fan.”

Victoria, who has three children, Brooklyn, eight, Romeo, five, and two-year-old Cruz with David Beckham, banned her soccer star husband from coming to see her perform with the Spice Girls, because she was so nervous.

David said last week, “One minute Victoria is saying she wants me there and then it’s, ‘No, don’t come to the first show, as we’ll all be too nervous.”

“But I think I’ll be at the show a couple of days later in San Jose and have the boys with me. And I know Victoria will ring me as soon as the first show ends. She says the rehearsals have gone amazingly well.”

Meanwhile, Posh will bare it all for her designer friend Marc Jacobs. She has signed a deal to become the face of designer Jacobs’s 2008 collection and he has persuaded her to be photographed naked with the image to be used on a range of his skin cancer charity T-shirts.

Victoria buys Rs 19 lakh treehouse for her children

Victoria Beckham has spent $50,000 (Rs 19.78 lakh approximately) on a treehouse as a Christmas gift for her three sons.

According to reports, Victoria was spotted buying the Treetent at Neiman Marcus. It is said to be the world’s most expensive treehouse. It is one of this year’s Neiman Marcus Fantasy Gifts. Though the expensive present may seem a little extravagant for Posh’s three sons, bosses at Neiman Marcus are confident it’s the perfect gift for the child who has everything.

The tree house is described as a ‘limited dollop of sci-fi futurism’ and ‘a totally new way to experience nature’. Scores of celebs are said to be desperate to get their hands on them for their kids.

Heath takes his joker character seriously

Heath Ledger, who plays the Caped Crusader’s nemesis in The Dark Knight, claims he locked himself away to help get into the character.

The Brokeback Mountain star told Empire magazine, “It’s a combination of reading all the comic books I could that were relevant to the script and then just closing my eyes and meditating on it. I sat around in my London hotel room for about a month, locked myself away, formed a little diary and experimented with voices. It was important to try to find a somewhat iconic voice and laugh.”

Heath was given permission by director Chris Nolan to portray The Joker - the part made famous by Jack Nicholson in the original 80s Batman movie - in any way he wanted, which resulted in the villain becoming a “psychopath”.

Heath, 28, revealed, “I ended up landing more in the realm of a psychopath, someone with almost no conscience towards his acts. He’s just an absolute sociopath, a cold-blooded, mass-murdering clown, and Chris has given me free rein. Which is fun, because there are no real boundaries to what The Joker would say or do. Nothing intimidates him, and everything is a big joke.”

In earlier interviews he has revealed it was his intention to be as dark as possible and used the film, A Clockwork Orange, as inspiration.

Missing Indian woman has cops, relatives baffled

Fort Myers, Florida: Kultar Goraya’s wife, Rupinder, disappeared two months ago. Police say he is the only “person of interest” and they cannot get a single straight story out of him.

Soon after Rupinder vanished, he abandoned his job and took their handicapped 3-year-old son Sam back to India, then abruptly returned to Florida with the boy when relatives demanded to know what happened to his wife. He claimed that Rupinder was having affairs with two men. Maybe she ran off with a lover, or she is with friends, he speculated. However, he could not provide credible names for people he said she knew well.

He gave a telephone number for one woman, but she said she did not know Rupinder. Fort Myers police cite similar changes in Kultar’s stories. They say they have found no evidence of another man. Friends and relatives say that was not Rupinder’s character. Personal items were found in her apartment that she would not have left behind and she would not have left her son, they say.

Detectives say that while Kultar’s stories changed too much during their two interviews with him to be believable, they do not have enough grounds to arrest him. “There’s no physical evidence that she has met with foul play. But all things considered, it certainly looks suspicious,” Detective Jeff Nibarger said.

Kultar and Rupinder and Sam had moved to Florida last year from Punjab. Their five-year marriage was arranged and they never seemed happy, said Rupinder’s aunt, Parneet Othee, who lives in Virginia.

In May, Kultar was arrested for allegedly choking his wife in a drunken rage. Police said he threatened to kill her, but the couple later reconciled. Rupinder’s aunt is worried. Detectives too fear the worst.


Indians aborting unwanted girls in Britain: Study
London: Researchers at Oxford University have found that a number of Indian-born women living in Britain are aborting unwanted daughters in order to have more boys, only because of cultural pressure.

In fact, the researchers found that many Indian women in Britain are undergoing the sex selective abortion in their home country — a practice outlawed in India since the 1980s.
