Lost Untangled Sums Up New Episode with Action Figures

Through four seasons, and four episodes of Season Five, there have been many tactics people have used to try and catch people up on Lost. However, few of them have worked, and those that have worked have taken hours to explain the show. So ABC is trying a new tactic to help viewers - using action figures and cut ups. Lost Untangled is a new ABC web feature that premiered on the Web after episode 5:04, "The Little Prince"

Comic book, Lost action figures, and cut out figures of Lost characters are used to try and explain the latest goings on in the story. The 4 minute Lost Untangled premiere video starts with a comic book format explaining the basic premise, the island's moving through time, and the Oceanic 6's need to go back.

After that, Lost Untangled moves towards explaining the specific points of the last episode, through comical exchanges and narration. Old action figures of Locke and Sawyer are used, with funny voices depicting Locke's constant use of destiny, and Sawyer's accent. For characters that don't have Lost action figures, like Daniel Faraday and Miles, cut outs are used to depict them.

To sum up the action off the island in "The Little Prince", Lost Untangled uses Jack and Kate action figures, a cut up of Ben, and another doll that's supposed to be Sun. The action figure of Jin makes a cameo appearance at the end, like Jin did in "The Little Prince" last night.

ABC is already trying hard to get newcomers, and people that missed an episode, to catch up to Lost in easier ways. One effort is in reruns of the previous week's episode, with pop up facts at the bottom of the screen to clear up some things. But even that tactic doesn't always explain everything.

But Lost Untangled isn't the first venture to use Lost action figures for a comedic purpose. The web series Lost: What Will Happen Next? by TheFineBros uses Lost action figures and has them interact with action figures from other popular movies and TV shows. Those bits usually have Hurley dying every time, like South Park's Kenny.

It would appear that Lost Untangled will be a new feature in the weeks to come, to help clear up each specific episode. It debuts on a slow week, as "The Little Prince" didn't have the kind of mind-blowing reveals that the season's first few episodes had, except for the very end.

But as the deadline for the Oceanic 6's return gets closer, and Locke gets closer to his off-island life as Jeremy Bentham, Lost Untangled will have bigger and crazier events to spoof in future weeks.
