Unsurprisingly, Tulsa defensive tackle Pearlie Graves signed with Texas Tech earlier today. Graves was technically committed to Michigan before he made this decision, but in reality he was far from a commit. Graves "committed" back in December and rumors immediately began swirling that he was going to end up somewhere else. Most rumors pegged him as a Sooner, but I don't believe an offer was on the table, at least not right now. Soon after the rumors started, Graves decided to take visits, signaling that he was a very soft commit, if even that.
In the end, this was easy to predict and I'm not even going to bother calling Graves a decommit. When other schools jump to the top of someone's list after a visit, you're not really a commit. Don't get me wrong, this is a pretty big blow that he didn't pick Michigan, but it's not a decommit in the sense that we should be surprised. It was pretty easy to see that this was going to happen.
As far as the impact Graves' decision has on the recruiting class, let's just say Michigan really needs to hope DeQuinta Jones has a last-second change of heart and decides to pick Michigan over an SEC school. If he doesn't, Michigan will have only one defensive tackle in this class -- William Campbell -- which is bad news considering how thin the depth chart is at that position already.
