When she walks into the room to be quizzed by waiting journalists, one cannot take eyes off her.
Dressed in white-halter-collared-shirt paired with pencil jeans combo, Priyanka Chopra seems to be getting prettier by the day. By this time, she must have got used to the constant stares. But, if the roles were to be reversed, who is it that she cannot help but stare at? “SRK,” she says instantly. “I am in complete awe of him. Right from my contest days, where he was the judge, I kept on staring at him. What a rude stare that was,” giggles Priyanka.
Priyanka started out with intense dramas, and soon diversified into comedy. Now, she has her eyes set on action — all in a span of just five years. Was this part of a carefully cultivated career plan? “No, it all just fell in place. Five years may not sound like ages but, for me, it seems so because I haven’t taken a single holiday in between. I work 20 hours a day, I like experimenting with my work and my looks, and I am getting to work with fine filmmakers,” she says.
Her recent film with Salman Khan, Sohail Khan and Amitabh Bachchan, is a copy of the Jim Carrey starrer Bruce Almighty . When she does such films that are are rip-offs of Hollywood films, does it affect her as an actor? “No, it doesn’t have an effect on me. Eventually, a lot of stories are inspired from different plots,” says Priyanka.
But, not all filmmakers are frank when it comes to informing the actors that their films are copies of other films. As an actor, is she taken into confidence when such things happen? “Yes, mostly. Rest of the time, they come to me all excited stating it’s an original idea. But, if someone is candid about his/her intentions, it makes a lot of difference to me,” observes she.
Did the journalist’s role in the recent Rumi Jaffrey film show her a new side of life? “You are right. But, it is not a role that gave me an insight into journalism as it is a comedy, though I realised a few things.” The actress is currently awaiting the release of Drona, her big film with Abhishek Bachchan, in which her character has all the trappings of an action heroine. And, she will also be spotted in an upcoming Bobby Deol film.
With so many successful heroines vying for the audience’s attention, there seems to be tough competition out there. Does it scare her? “No, I don’t think so,” she says rather confidently, and goes on, “I am grateful that I am doing the kind of stuff I like, and I am in a position today to pick and choose the films I want to do.” Very few heroines can boast of having achieved so much in such a little time. But then, the actor in question is Priyanka Chopra!
