Wayne Rooney turns down Nickelback video

England footballer Wayne Rooney has turned down the chance to appear in a new Nickelback video.

Rooney was allegedly asked to star in the video to 'Rock You', alongside Nelly Furtardo, Gene Simmons, ZZ Top and Kid Rock.

The Manchester United striker reportedly spurned the 'How You Remind Me' rockers' offer because he thought the role would damage his credibility.

A music industry insider told The Sun: "It's the number one video download on iTunes and the album has shifted over seven million copies in the States.

"They wanted superstars from sport in the video too, and as Ryan in the band supports Man U they approached Wayne to appear."

The source claimed that Rooney snubbed the band because he "only listens to hip-hop".

Nickelback replaced the soccer ace with ice hockey player Wayne Gretzky.
