Direction fascinates me:Jimmy

With those drop dead looks that make girls go weak in their knees, Jimmy Shergill has carved out his own space in the film industry. After working with the best filmmakers of Bollywood, Jimmy is trying to reinvent himself in his upcoming movies.

In an exclusive chat with Kanpur Times, the good-looking actor talks about his journey in the industry and his forthcoming films among other things.
Having started his career with the much-acclaimed movie Maachis in 1996, Jimmy feels that his journey so far now has been quite satisfactory. “I was very fortunate to work with a director like Gulzar sahab in my first film Maachis. He is one of my favourite directors and I would love to work with him again to see where I stand now as an actor,” says Jimmy.

Jimmy is looking forward to his next film Strangers , which is going to be released shortly. “I feel it’s the best character that I have got to portray in my entire career. Strangers is a film about two people, who meet each other in the train and realise that there is not much happening in their lives,” he reveals.

Jimmy recently made headlines when he refused to do a kissing scene in the movie with his co-star Nandana Sen. “I clearly told my director that I would not do scenes in which I am not comfortable.”

The affable actor will also be seen in the multi-starrer Dus Kahaniyaan . “ Dus Kahaniyaan has interestingly got 10 movies in one. My movie directed by Hansal Mehta is titled High on the highway and it’s 10 minutes long,” informs Jimmy.

Although Jimmy has done both romantic as well as serious type of roles, but his first choice is comedy. “I enjoy doing comedy and it’s very challenging at the same time. It is very difficult actually to make other people laugh. But I feel comedy in any form is good as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone,” says he with a smile.

So, are we going to see him doing more comedy films in the near future? “Well, I’m doing two films. One is Bachelor Party , which is an out an out comedy and the other is Haste Haste , which is a romantic comedy,” replies Jimmy.

Jimmy has been around in the industry for quite some time now and has seen the changes that the industry has undergone in the last decade or so. “I feel a lot of good work has happened in the last few years. A lot of young filmmakers have come up and made some very good, sensible movies of different genres,” he states.

And will he also take up direction some day? “I haven’t given it a thought actually. Direction certainly fascinates me. May be in the future I might direct a film. At the moment I’m enjoying the phase that I’m going through,” says Jimmy on a parting note.
