Peas, Beyonce to rock India!

Two of the world’s largest pop and rock acts will be hitting India this October - and Bangalore and Mumbai will be the lucky hosts

NO monkey business this. The buzz that’s been going around is now confirmed - the hugely-popular hip hop group from LA, the Black Eyed Peas, fronted by the charismatic Fergie, will rock Bangalore on October 16. And that’s not all. For all fans of the bold and the beautiful Beyonce, there’s great news, too. She will be in Mumbai doing a huge show on October 27.

Managing director of the company bringing out the shows, T Venkat Vardhan, calls the shows a ‘double whammy’. Fans of the Black Eyed Peas, which comprises will.i.am, apl.de.ap, Taboo and Fergie, will be able to groove to all their fave numbers, which include Don’t Phunk with My Heart, Let’s Get It Started and My Humps. The group will be in India for the first time as part of their Black Blue and You World Tour, which covers 13 countries.

Beyonce Knowles, R&B songwriter, singer, record producer, actor, dancer and fashion designer has a massive fan following of her own. The sexy diva, who’s won several Grammys, will perform only in Mumbai.

What’s satisfying for Indian music fans is the opportunity to catch two of the best contemporary music acts around within the space of a couple of weeks. Why the Peas for Bangalore? And Beyonce in Mumbai?

Vardhan explains that the decisions were based on the number of hits and the responses they have been receiving on their websites. “Bangalore has been seeing some good rock bands lately and we wanted to give them something very contemporary and cutting edge,” he says. “The Peas’ albums sell the highest in Bangalore compared to any other market in India, whereas Mumbai leans towards high-end pop music. That’s why Beyonce will perform there.”
