LUCKNOW: A speeding mini-truck crushed a class V girl student who was going on her bicycle. Her sister, who was accompanying her, managed to escape. The accident took place infront of SGPGI gate on Monday afternoon. The driver of the mini-truck has been arrested and the vehicle seized.
Anju, aged 14, resident of Sabhakheda in Mohanlalganj, and her sister, Manju, were going on their bicycles when the accident occurred. They were going in the direction leading to Rae Bareli.
When they reached the gates of SGPGI, a speeding milk truck, Tata 407 (UP53 B0218) coming from behind, hit them. Both sisters were trying to turn right when they were hit. Anju died on the spot and her bicycle was damaged. Manju was also hit and received injuries, but had a providential escape. Both were students of Puneet Montessori School located near SGPGI.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested soon after the accident. He has been identified as Santosh Kumar, resident of Bachrawan, Rae Bareli. The vehicle has been seized.
The Rae Bareli road — on which this accident took place— does not have a speed breaker near SGPGI. As a result, accidents caused by speeding heavy vehicles take place near the SGPGI entrance regularly.
Sources said that since there is a lot of VIP movement on the road, requests for making of speed-breakers have not been paid heed to. A fresh request has been sent for the same after the accident.
