It’s not easy to disappear from where the action is, for three long years, and then suddenly come back looking for a place for yourself in Bollywood.
But Rikku Rakeshnath’s son Karran Nathh who’s starred in movies like Pagalpan, Yeh Dil Aashiqana, Sssshhh, Tum with Manisha Koirala and JP Dutta’s LoC, most certainly knew his moves.
But, suddenly the actor was not seen on the Bollywood circuit. Now, he is making a comeback under the baton of Sudhir Mishra, in Tera Kya Hoga Johnny, opposite Soha Ali Khan. "I wasn’t happy with the kind of roles I was getting. To top it, last year was terrible for me. I was down with typhoid for many months. I was disillusioned for a while. But I never gave up. I have seen dad struggling and I have his fighting spirit. Yes, even he tried helping me out, but things didn’t fall in place," says Karran.
He adds, "Life has taught me a lot in these three years," he says philosophically. Karran believes, even though one is surrounded by people, one can be lonely. "But, age is on my side, I am just 26 now. I am excited to be back again," he says.
Karran did a lot of soul searching, reading, travelling, playing his favourite game tennis, and of course watching movies after movies when he was away from Bollywood. "I pursued tennis for seven or eight years, but I started getting offers for films. When I quit tennis I was playing at the national level, so it was only a step away from representing India abroad. But at the same time I was learning dancing and taking action training classes. All this took up all my time. It became difficult for me to continue playing tennis after a point of time," he says.
All set for his second innings, this time, Karran wants to leave no stone unturned to make a mark in Bollywood. "When Sudhir sir narrated the story I was hooked. He said he’ll give me a role that will establish my credentials as an actor. I trust him. He’s somebody I am learning so many things from. To be able to do a film with him is important for me," he says.
Speaking about Tera Kya Hoga Johnny, Karran explains that the movie has two stories running
parallel. "Soha is opposite me. She’s a very sweet girl and a great co-star," he says.
Having a dad who’s made brand names like Madhuri Dixit, Ameesha Patel, Adnan Sami and others, how involved is he in Karran’s career? "He’s been my guiding star all through. He tried helping me, but like I say, everything comes to you when it’s due. Having little patience helps big time," he smiles. Madhuri Dixit is someone who he has seen a lot while growing up. And Karran hopes to get a chance to work with her.
"She’s been my favourite actress. She is looking so stunning now. I would want to work with her, but there has to be an apt story to complement us," says the actor, who made his debut in Mr India, when he was just four years old. Didn’t we know, our future calling comes in various forms.
