Envision's Central 1 award no small change

A new feature that helps people develop the habit of saving has earned Envision Financial provincewide recognition, with a Central 1 Innovation Award for its Big Change program.

Central 1, the umbrella organization for all B.C. and Ontario credit unions, gave the honour to Envision's free program, Big Change, which can be added to any Envision personal chequing account.

Every time a member uses their debit card to make a point-of-sale purchase, Big Change rounds their purchase up to the nearest dollar and transfers the additional change to their savings account automatically.

Envision says the program helps its members save an average $130 per year. That should help reverse Canadians' decreased savings rate.

STILL A FIRST FOR STEELHEAD MARINE

Steelhead Marine in Mission made it to the top three finalists for this year's Manufactured Products Award in the 2008 BC Export Awards on Nov. 21.

Based on research by Kevin Poole at the District of Mission, this was the first time a Mission company made the top 25 list in the history of the awards, from the Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters and the province of B.C.

Steelhead Marine, a manufacturer of yacht cranes, divots and stainless steel marine hardware in Mission for more than 20 years, also recently announced they will be expanding their local facility.

RAISING EYEBROWS IN ENTERPRISE

Congratulations to Abbotsford's Nancy Parker of Eyebrowz Design, who is featured in the recently published New Pioneers: Stories of 100 B.C. Women Entrepreneurs, an inspiring catalogue of women's entrepreneurship and innovation in B.C.

She was recognized by the Women's Enterprise Centre in Kelowa, whose CEO Laurel Douglas notes that women own 35 per cent of all small businesses in the province, which make up 98 per cent of business overall in B.C. You go girls!
