Several schools and institutions are closed this morning as a major winter storm is moving through the Chicago area. ComEd spokeswoman Alicia Zatkowski says 20,000 customers were without service this morning, most of them in an area south of Midway Airport to the Indiana border. More than 250 crews are working to restore power. Northern Indiana Public Service Company is reporting about 27,000 NIPSCO customers without power. The National Weather Service says heavy snow, sleet and freezing rain will continue across northwest Illinois and northwest Indiana through mid-morning.
