George Bush Admits His Biggest Regret: The House of Saddam

In another month Barack Obama will move into the White House and George Bush will wave in welcome relief as he heads back to Crawford, Texas. It’s amazing just how much has happened in the eight years that he was in office. The biggest and most damaging is the Iraq war. Yesterday, in an ABC World News interview, George Bush was asked what his biggest regret was. Unlike in past years, he surprisingly had the ‘correct’ answer..

“.. The biggest regret of all the presidency has to have been the intelligence failure in Iraq. A lot of people put their reputations on the line and said the weapons of mass destruction is a reason to remove Saddam Hussein. It wasn’t just people in my administration; a lot of members in Congress, prior to my arrival in Washington D.C., during the debate on Iraq, a lot of leaders of nations around the world were all looking at the same intelligence. And, you know, that’s not a do-over, but I wish the intelligence had been different, I guess.. That is a do-over that I can’t do. It’s hard for me to speculate.”

Yes it is ‘hard to speculate.’ While Osama Bin Laden continues to post videos on YouTube, just in time for the holidays, Saddam Hussein was taken down for being the guy standing next to the guy. Saddam was a crazy, ruthless dictator, but it was George Bush who ordered the UN inspectors out of Iraq. The same inspectors that suggested a few more months were necessary to complete their jobs. The inspectors that Bush continues to claim Saddam wouldn’t even allow in the country. .. “Saddam Hussein was unwilling to let the inspectors go in to determine whether or not the U.N. resolutions were being upheld.” ← November 1, 2008. Iraq was a war of choice, not neccesity.


This Sunday HBO will take a look back at the House of Saddam. A four part mini-series showing Saddam Hussein’s rise to power. How he ruled with violence and intimidation, and the eventual bombs over Baghdad that took him down - right down to ‘the Godfather’ being pulled from a dirty foxhole. This mini-series should have aired during the election, as a reminder about the soldiers still camped out in Iraq. But maybe it’s best that it was delayed. There was that weird thing about one of the candidates having the same name as the subject.

“I got my middle name from somebody who obviously didn’t think I’d ever run for president.”

Got that right smile We’ll see if he Barack uses his full name at next month’s inauguration ceremony.
