Pollution Board cuts power supply to mall

GURGAON: Central Plaza Mall on Mehrauli Gurgaon Road was plunged into darkness on Tuesday when the Haryana Pollution Control Board disconnected
its power supply, affecting business badly. Board officials also seized generator sets from the premises.

Said C V Singh, regional officer of HPCB, "We had sent a number of notices to the company maintaining the mall asking it to adhere to norms and guidelines issued by the board. But despite that, the mall management never tried to get no-objection certificates for the generators being used there, nor did they try to instal a sewage treatment plant. We had no option but to cut the electricity connection.''

The mall houses around 50 business establishments including big retail outlets, high-end restaurants, MNC offices and banks.

Meanwhile, members of the Mall Occupants Welfare Association vent their ire on the company which maintains the mall. They alleged that the mall was not being maintained as it should be.

Rajpal Singh Bajwa, president of the association said, "Earlier this company regularly collected electricity and maintenance charges but did not pay the same to DHBVN. As a result, outstanding bill amounted to a staggering Rs 65 lakh, after which electricity connection to the centre was cut.''

It was only after the matter was taken up by the association that part of the bill was paid and electricity connection was restored, he added.

Problems with the mall are plenty, said association members, adding that while builders were collecting parking charges for HUDA areas, fire safety norms were grossly violated too. "Vijay Dixit, the CMD of the agency is unreachable and does not respond to court notices,'' rued Bajwa.

Meanwhile, all efforts to contact Vijay Dixit proved futile.
