Anthem 5K field, weather look good

The Anthem 5K Fitness Classic could have its biggest field and its best weather when the starter's pistol fires at 8 a.m. tomorrow.

"We're currently almost at 8,000 for preregistration. That's about 1,200 ahead of where we were last year," race director Scott Wilcoxson said. "We're expecting about 9,000."

Also expected are terrific running conditions with partly sunny skies and temperatures in the high 50s or low 60s at race time. The starting time is new, moved ahead a half hour to minimize its effect on traffic.

And the Anthem 5K, which is the kickoff for the 25th Louisville Triple Crown of Running Series, also has a new course.

The starting line has been moved near the intersection of Witherspoon and Preston streets, at the back of Louisville Slugger Field. The course also won't go west through downtown anymore but instead will go east along River Road before finishing on East Main Street.

Late registration will be 11 a.m.-7 p.m. today at Louisville Slugger Field. The late registration fee is $35 for the Anthem 5K or $75 for the entire Triple Crown Series.

Runners also may register tomorrow from 6-7:30 a.m. at Slugger Field for $50 for the Anthem 5K and $90 for the Triple Crown.
