RENO - The Washoe County School District is sending some money back to the state of Nevada to help with the state budget.
At a special meeting Tuesday afternoon, the district approved sending a total of $9.8 million to help balance the state budget.
Almost three million of that is state grant money that was originally designated for school remediation and innovative programs.
The rest is general fund money that the state had given the district but now wants back to help deal with the state budget shortfall.
At the same time, the school board approved spending some money to ensure that it gets other state grants.
The district hasn't specified what programs will lose money in the exchange.
