2009 Oscar Winners

It's been a triumphant night for British film talent at the Oscars.

Kate Winslet has been crowned best actress for her role in The Reader.

It's the icing on the cake for the star, who has been nominated for six Oscars since 1996, but has failed to win any - until now.

In a breathless (but coherent) acceptance speech, she paid tribute to her fellow "goddess" nominees, and thanked her husband Sam Mendes, and her two children, "for loving me just the way I am".

Elsewhere, it's been a fantastic night for British film Slumdog Millionaire, which bagged eight gongs, including best director for Danny Boyle, and best film.

Sean Penn was named best actor for his part in Milk, and Heath Ledger was awarded a posthumous Oscar for his role in The Dark Knight, collected by his family on his behalf.

Check out the 2009 Oscar winners in our list below and catch the highlights of the Oscars show on Monday 23rd February at 10pm on Sky1 and Sky1HD.
