Following the footsteps of "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" in collecting two Oscars, "Slumdog Millionaire" scored another kudo at the 81st Annual Academy Awards. The rag-to-riches drama by Danny Boyle took Best Achievement in Cinematography for cinematographer Anthony Dod Mantle.
The best cinematography award was presented by Natalie Portman and Ben Stiller, the latter lampooned Joaquin Phoenix before the announcement. Earlier, "Slumdog", the movie about a poor Indian boy who gets a shot at winning millions in a television game, has nailed Best Adapted Screenplay for Simon Beaufoy.
Beside "Slumdog", "Spielzeugland (Toyland)" brought home the prize for Best Live Action Short Film. The Jochen Alexander Freydank's film was given the awards by "Pineapple Express" stars, Seth Rogen and James Franco, who were joined by two-time Oscar winning cinematographer Janusz Kaminski.
Aside from revealing the bests of 2008, the gala ceremony held at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood also presented a montage of romantic moments from the movies of 2008. Introducing the special feature were "Twilight" heartthrob Robert Pattinson and "Mamma Mia!" star Amanda Seyfried.
