BJP objects to DD telecast of PM, Sonia speeches

NEW DELHI: Opposition BJP on Saturday took objection to the telecast by Doordarshan of the entire speeches of PM Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi at the AICC session saying it violated the poll code.

BJP contended that the speeches were also watched by people in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh where elections are scheduled to be held next month and amounted to a "serious violation" of the model code.

"How can the ruling party at the Centre, which is also a principal contestant in Gujarat and the ruling party in Himachal Pradesh, be allowed to have monopoly of the public broadcaster," BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad asked.

Both Singh and Gandhi attacked BJP and previous NDA government in the course of their speeches.
