Last night (18 November) it was literally a star studied American Music Awards as Fergie – draped in a glittery shimmer-soaked silver dress – and band mate Will.i.am – seen in a velvet tuxedo and customary top hat – took to the stage to perform a live version of hit single Fergalicious. At the 35th annual Awards the two also went on to perform a rock & roll rendition of Clumsy before Fergie left screaming fans a Big Girls Don’t Cry ballad.
Later on in the opening at the Los Angeles Nokia Theatre, Will.i.am came back to the stage – this time donning a silver tux – to perform single, Heatseaker and then join Nicole Scherzinger on Baby Love.
Despite Will.i.am not actually winning or being nominated for any awards a member of the Black Eyes Peas did take home a gong as Fergie scooped, Favourite Female Artist. The London Bridge singer piped Jay-Z’s main squeeze Beyoncé and punk princess Avril Lavigne to the post.
Other winners on the night included Justin Timberlake (Favourite Male Artist/ Favourite album - FutureSex/LoveSounds), Akon (SOUL/RHYTHM & BLUES - Favourite Male Artist) and T.I. (RAP/HIP HOP - Favourite Male Artist/ Favourite album - T.I. vs. T.I.P.. The ATL rapper obviously couldn’t collect the award himself, being on house arrest and all.
The American Music Awards made history by becoming the first major awards ceremony determined by online voting.
