Pradeep Todi, aide to undergo lie-detector test

NEW DELHI: The Todi family allegedly paid Rs 11 lakh to Moinuddin alias Pappu to separate Priyanka and Rizwanur. The details of bribery by Todis emerge as CBI seems set to achieve a closure soon on the case of the mysterious death of computer instructor Rizwanur just after he failed to have Priyanka back.

The case had triggered protests in Kolkata and cost Prasun Mukherjee his job as chief of Kolkata Police, besides taking a heavy toll on the hosiery business of Todis whose popular brand Lux Cozy has a large market presence. The agency, which was brought by the high court into the picture because of suspicions that Kolkata Police may not conduct a fair investigation because of alleged intervention by its officials on behalf of the Todis, seems to have found all but a few pieces in the puzzle behind Rizwanur’s body lying on the rail tracks.

For instance, while it has been established that the Todis, working through Kolkata Police and acquaintances among Muslim businessmen, brought pressure to bear upon Rizwanur, evidence gathered so far does not point to the possibility of his being murdered.

Similarly, while CBI seems to have gathered enough evidence to suggest that two DCPs of Kolkata Police, Gyanwant Singh and Ajay Kumar, had actively tried to separate Rizwanur from Priyanka, the former commissioner of Kolkata Police entered the frame much later. Again, while Priyanka may have been living with her parents, she had not bought into their "conspiracy theory" that Rizwanur was after the family’s wealth. She told CBI that her computer teacher husband was really in love with her.

It is also clear that Rizwanur never tried to prod her to convert. Rather, he was keen on embracing Hinduism.
Pappu, who had also lately been dabbling in real eastate, is to be subjected to polygraph test this week by the CBI. Pradeep Todi is also to be subjected to the lie-detector test even though he, like brother Ashok Todi and Kayal, have acknowledged having paid Pappu. However, Ashok will not be given the lie-detector test due to his medical condition.

CBI is waiting for the findings of the scientific examination of the hard discs of the computers last used by Rizwanur, his mobile phone as well as that of Priyanka’s.
