BANGALORE: Any examination can be unpredictable. But the Common Admission Test (CAT) is the mother of all surprises.
Virtually every year, the test has left even the best brains in the country astounded — be it the number of questions or the pattern for negative marking. CAT 2007 will be no different.
"The number of questions has been going down almost every year. While it was 150 till 2003, it came down to 123 in 2004 and 90 in 2005. Last year, it was just 75 questions. This year, it may remain at that or reduce further," Arindam Lahiri, director (academics) at Career Launcher, Delhi, a prominent CAT coaching centre told STOI.
The two-and-half hour test to be held in 23 cities across the country on Sunday may also surprise the 2.3 lakh students who brave the CAT to study at the premier IIMs or other B-schools in the marking schemes.
This may probably be the last time that the Common Admission Test for management institutes is being taken on a piece of paper as the Indian Institutes of Management are mulling over taking this test online in future.
