Seattle Earthquake 2009: Western Washington Effects
The Seattle earthquake was technically centered just outside of the city, about 14 miles northwest of Seattle near the town of Kingston. Its effects, though, could be felt all throughout Western Washington’s Puget Sound area — even all the way to Victoria, British Columbia. That’s a full 71 miles away.
Many people reported being shaken awake by the noise and vibrations. One man told Fox News it seemed “like something had hit the roof.” Some families recall feeling the shaking for as long as 15 seconds.
No major damage or injuries have been reported.
