Mario wows hundreds of gamers

Bigger than the Beatles, Barbie and Britney - Super Mario is back with a bang.

The famous pint-sized computer character has returned in Nintendo Wii game, Super Mario Galaxy.

Hundreds of enthusiasts braved the cold in central London to be the first to get their hands on Mario, a day before the game's official release.

And the first gamer in the queue, who turned up at 9am - said it was well worth the wait.

He said: "It's so beautiful and really pushing the Wii to what it can do. It shows the other competitors that gameplay is better than everything else."

Players will be transported to the outer regions of space with Mario the plumber, as they explore numerous galaxies and planets across the universe.

Super Mario Galaxy is expected to sell 200 million units worldwide.
