Is Hindu Sangam decides to question why must Muslim slaughtering cows on Hari Raya Aidil Adha?
According to http://www.answers.com/topic/sacred-cow :
In Hinduism, the cow is considered sacred and its protection is a recurrent theme in which she is symbolic of abundance, of the sanctity of all life and of the earth that gives much while asking nothing in return. Most Hindus respect the cow as a matriarchal figure for her gentle qualities and providing nurturing milk and its products for a largely vegetarian diet. It holds an honored place in society, and it is part of Hindu tradition to avoid the consumption of beef.
Today, in Hindu majority nations like India and Nepal, bovine milk continues to hold a central place in religious rituals. In honor of their exalted status, cows often roam free. In some places, it is considered good luck to give one a snack, or fruit before breakfast. In places where there is a ban on cow slaughter, a citizen can be sent to jail for killing or injuring a cow.
With injunctions against eating the cow, a system evolved where only the pariah fed on dead cows and treated their leather.
Muslims throughout the country will celebrate Hari Raya Aidil Adha on Dec 7 by fulfilling the symbolic gesture of sacrifice by slaughtering cows, buffaloes and goats. The meat was then distributed especially among the poor, irrespective of their race and religion.
Hari Raya Haji is also known as Hari Raya Korban. Korban means sacrifice. On this day, animals like camels, sheep and cows are slaughtered.
In many kampungs, the every year occasion was marked by korban ceremonies where cattle were slaughtered and the meat distributed to the poor in the area. Every year more than 10,000 cows were slaughtered in mosques and surau all over the state in conjuction with the celebration.
The religious ritual of slaughtering animals became the highlight of the celebration as the morning prayers ended.
This act is in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim?s willingness to sacrifice his elder son, Prophet Ismail, when God commanded him to do so as a test of his commitment to his faith. God appeared in a dream to Prophet Ibrahim and told him to sacrifice his son Prophet Ismail.
Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail then set off to Mina to perform the act. On their way, the devil attempted to persuade Prophet Ibrahim to disobey God and not to sacrifice his beloved son. But Prophet Ibrahim stayed true to God, and drove the devil away. As Prophet Ibrahim prepared to kill his son, God stopped him and replaced his son with a lamb instead.
