MUMBAI: M L Kumawat, secretary internal security, has said the Trident-Oberoi hotel is fully secure. All guests have been taken out of the hotel, he said.

"The Oberoi-Trident hotels are totally in our control. We are still ensuring that no undesirable element be remaining inside and the guest be brought out safely," declared NSG Director General J.K.Dutta at 2.40 pm this afternoon.

The security personnel are now moving ahead with the room-to-room checking. We will give a warning before opening up any locked room with the help of small explosions and the guests will be brought out," Dutta informed.

"There were two terrorists in the hotel. We wanted to take them alive, but following a battle, they lost their lives," he informed.

"Two AK47 rifles and one pistol have been recovered along with hand grenades that are yet to be defused," Dutta added.

Dutta said it was a good cordon provided by the Indian Army and the Police that helped in the success of the operation

The group, some of whom were carrying luggage with Canadian flags were taken away in cars without speaking to reporters. The group included one man dressed in chef's uniform and a small baby.

The release on Friday came as NSG commandos were assaulting a nearby Jewish center and another hotel, searching for terrorists still holed up more than a day after a chain of attacks across India's financial center by the militants.

Mumbai Police Commissioner Hassan Gafoor said at least 12 terrorists had come to Mumbai from Gujarat.

Three terrorists, including a Pakistani national, were arrested by the security forces from the Taj hotel last night. The Pakistani national was identified as Ajmal Amir Kamal, a resident of Faridkot in Multan, officials said. The suspected militants belong to Lashkar-e-Taiba, they said.

Some hours before the operation ended, Dutta said two terrorists were holed up in the 8th floor of the Oberoi hotel while in the Trident section the combing operation has been completed.

"As far as Trident is concerned, we have been able to completely clean up and we do not have any report of any terrorist being holed up over there.

"As far as Oberoi is concerned, yes, we have engaged two terrorists on the 8th floor," he said.

Late in the night, there was a major fire in Trident where about 200 people have been trapped and terrorists exploded grenades that set the roof ablaze amid exchange of gunfire.
