Man stabbed after Dannevirke fight

A man has been hospitalised after he was stabbed a number of times during a brawl between two groups of men overnight in Dannevirke.

Detective Shelley Ross of Palmerston North CIB said the fight broke out about 1am and the 25-year-old man received five serious stab wounds to his upper body and neck.

Ms Ross said police were looking for a weapon, thought to be a boning knife or similar.

The man's wounds were not life threatening and he underwent surgery at Palmerston North hospital this morning.

Ms Ross said police were speaking with a 22-year-old Dannevirke man about the incident, and a number of other witnesses were being interviewed.

The fight was not gang related.
