SIMC organises Delhi Footprints 2008

At the Delhi Footprints 2008, organised by SIMC, famous personalities from media world not only stressed on the importance of citizen journalism but also motivated the upcoming journalists to contribute to the society by becoming citizen journalists.

THE GRAND media event

Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communication (SIMC) every year organises a media event called ’Footprints’.

Delhi Footprints 2008, held at Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) auditorium on Saturday (November 22, 2008) was a huge success. A panel of reputed speakers of the day included Ashutosh - managing director of IBN 7, Shashank - Indian Foreign Service officer, Sabina Sehgal Saikia - consultant editor and food critic of Times of India, W Habibullah - chief information commissioner of Right to Information and Vipul Kant Upadhyay- founder of India’s first participatory journalism news portal (merinews.com).

These famous personalities from the world of media not only stressed on the importance of citizen journalism but also motivated the upcoming journalist’s like us to be aware and contribute to the society by becoming citizen journalists.

After the very indulging informative talk, there was a classical dance performance to enlighten the scenario.

The second section of the event was based on radio. Anil Srivatsa- chief operating officer (COO) of Meow FM, Mamta Dixit- programmer in AIR FM Radio and RJ Simran of Radio City 91.1 FM were present to throw light on the subject.

Originality, pronunciation, articulation and connecting with the people are the ingredients of radio.

Srivatsa raised an important point that radio being an imaginative and blind medium is better off than visuals at times as they may distract a person.

Followed by the inspirational speeches on radio, we had the most interesting and interactive session of the day-The jam session hosted by youth icons of MTV, VJ Vikrant (Roadies) and RJ Yamini (Splitsvilla).

11 students selected from the audience were given a topic and were to speak for one minute each.
Out of them, three deserving speakers were awarded Barista hampers.

The last segment of the magnificent event was ’Innovations in Brand Communication’. Distinguished personalities like Sunil Gupta- mentor at Milagrow Business and Knowledge Solutions, Kartik Raina- managing director of Dr Morepens Laboratories, Ammar Alvi- associate managing editor- Voice of India, Santosh Jha- director of Foresight Advertising Limited, Gokul Krishnamurthy- head of eventfaqs.com and Samir Kapur who specialises in investor relations, financial communication, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), issue managment and media relations addressed the gathering and shared their views on the objectives and conduct of advertising.

This was followed by prize distribution for the online contest’s of Citizen Journalism and photography announced by Anubha of Splitsvilla (MTV).

Delhi Footprints 2008, was surely an eye opener for youngsters and it widened our understanding of horizons of media.
