A 26-year-old New Zealand woman on her honeymoon has died in Fiji of severe brain damage after she was hit by a boat while snorkeling at a resort.
Fiji police have not named the woman.
In a statement just released they say she was hit by a boat propeller near Matamanoa Island on Friday morning.
The woman was on honeymoon at the hotel with her 29-year-old husband.
The couple were married a week earlier and arrived at the island last Thursday.
They went snorkeling after breakfast on Friday in Matamanoa waters.
At around 10.30am a small boat that was on it's way to the hotel accidentally hit the woman who sustained severe head injuries.
The boat was operated by a casual labourer from the hotel.
He took the victim and her husband back to the hotel where she was air-lifted to Lautoka Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
A post mortem was conducted today which concluded that she died from a severe brain trauma.
Police say arrangements are underway to bring the body back to New Zealand.
A Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokeswoman said the New Zealand High Commission in Fiji was providing support to the woman's family.
