Hectic arrangements for TDP`s `Yuva Garjana` on Nov 5

Hectic arrangements are being made for the film actors-studded Yuva Garjana (youth roar) programme in the 140 acre sprawling land near the Nagarjuna University campus between Guntur and Vijayawada to be held on November five at which a crowd of not less than one million is expected.

The premises wears a festive look. A boisterous young TDP worker has described the event as a political tsunami which will sound the last post to Congress.

Presence of film actors all progeny of the late matinee idol and founder of TDP N T Rama Rao, who trounced the Congress in 1983, is expected to be the main attraction at the mega event.

The stunning rout in the 2004 April general elections and subsequent local bodies elections in Andhra Pradesh at the hands of the Congress, the large scale exodus of rank and file to Telugu film actor Chiranjeevi's infant Praja Rajyam party and exit of senior Telangana leader Devendar Gowd have all alarmed the Opposition TDP supremo N Chandra Babu Naidu, according to the political observers.

The November five programme is a colossal attempt to revitalise the TDP and restore its glory.

The 140-acre sprawling venue near the Nagarjuna University office on national highway five between Guntur and Vijaywada city wears a bridal look. Top TDP leader former Finance Minister Y Rama Krishnudu has been overseeing the arrangements.

he venue is humming with activity. Several committees have been formed to take care of stage decorations. Transport, accommodations, food, parking, public relations and cultural programmes.

Top TDP leaders like U Venkateswarulu, Yerram Nidu, Kala Venkata Rao, Nagam Janardhan Reddi, Roja, Kodela Siva Prasad, N Raja Kumari are all here. The huge district TDP office here was crowded with leaders. It resembled the mini state headquarters of the TDP.

Provision is made to park about 20,000 vehicles expected to bring human cargo from all parts of Andhra Pradesh. About 1,000 buses and 20 special trains are hired. Rally is planned with one lakh two-wheelers. About 500 private securitymen will be deployed.

Ten medical camps will be manned by 20 doctors of all specialists. All guest houses and hotels in Gutnur, Vijayawada and nearby towns like Tenali and Mangalagiri are fully booked.

Rama Krishnudu said today that film actors Bala Krishna, Hari Krishna, Taraka Ratna, and Kalyan Ram, sons and grand sons of N T Rama Rao will grace the event.

Not to be left behind in the race, Congress party has involved veteran film actor Krishna, his young film hero son Mahesh, Raja Sekhar, his wife Jeevitha and veteran actress Jaya Sudha.

Significantly, the political landscape in Andhra Pradesh is changing with histrionics making forays into politics. It is a sparkling era of glittering film actors. Politicains, who are utilising the services of crowd pulling silver screen heroes, are not happy either because they have to take a back seat, while film actors steal the thunder, political co mentors say.

Huge effigies of roaring lions greet visitors at the impressive entrance arch of the venue of the party rally. The 80ft X 40ft stage is gaily decorated with pictures of N T Rama Rao, Chandra Babu Naidu and his film actors kin.

There will be separate enclosures for women, VIPs and the media. Huge boards, pictures, banners, festoons and arches are everywhere at the venue.

Late N T Rama Rao launched the TDP in 1983 which swept the polls in the general elections held in the same year. He was the Chief Minister of AP from January 1983 to December 1989 and from Decmeber 1994 to August 1995. Angered by widower N T Rama Rao's re-marriage with a divorcee, N Chandra Babu Naidu, who is NTR's son-in-law and Ramarao's other family members staged a revolt and unseated him.

Chandra Babu Naidu became the Chief Minister in September 1995 and continued till April 2004 when he suffered humiliating defeat in the polls. Out of 294 seats in the AP Assembly, TDP won only 47 against Congress party's 185. Lucklessness continued TDP in the subsequent elections to the local bodies.

The present effort of Yuva garjana rally is to boost the sagging morale of TDP and retrieve its past image.
